    Limestone hearth.

Got it done. Just need to paint the render once she decides on the colour.

    Limestone hearth.

For the flooding or thinking laying on a bed of mortar would stain it? Don't know whether to say thanks or not lol. Personally unaffected by the flooding other than travel being difficult and very time consuming. Anyway got some Lithofin Stain-Stop so going to tackle the job tomorrow...

    Limestone hearth.

Going to fit a limestone hearth in my daughters house. I believe I need to seal the limestone top ( and bottom to prevent damp staining coming through?) before installing and again after fitting. Is Lithofin the only product as at £30 it is costing much more than two 900 x 600 bits of limestone...

    Flue liner.

Thanks guys. All advise duly noted. A HETAS registered installer is fitting the LPG boiler and he is going to oversee the stove installation and sign it off. He is currently on holiday while I do some preparation work hence I am asking on here at present. Thanks everyone.

    Hardie backer adhesive.

That is the plan now. Render and possibly paint it initially ( my daughter is running low on funds) and apply brick slips at a later date if she still wants them

    Flue liner.

    It's for a multifuel stove.

    Flue liner.

What is the preferred method for fitting a flue liner? Top to bottom or bottom to top. Benefit of gravity doing top to bottom. Anything else? The room is 100% empty and making a mess is not a concern. Thanks.

    Hardie backer adhesive.

Thanks for the replies. Just wondering though, if the builders opening is rendered is there any need to fit hardiebacker if fitting brick slips over that?

    Hardie backer adhesive.

Now on to plan C for the fireplace multi fuel stove.. Think this is the final plan. The builders opening is going to be rendered and then 12mm Hardie backer applied which eventually will be tiled with brick slips when my daughter can afford this (thanks to 'maltaron' for this suggestion). What...

    Mortar mix.

Anyone? Fire cement for the engineering bricks and pack down behind them and the builders opening with 5x1 sand and cement or 4x1x1 sand, lime and cement or some other mix using vermiculite? Thank you very much.

    Mortar mix.

Hi guys. Following on from a previous question as we will have a 6'' gap either side of a 5Kw multifuel stove I am planning on finishing the builders opening with engineering bricks as opposed to fire bricks as previously advised. Should I use fire cement for this and pack down behind the...

System boiler or Combi for LPG?

I think any extensions etc would exceed the ceiling price for the area so selling in a few years or whenever would be the way to go.

System boiler or Combi for LPG?

Bank of Dad has already been hammered with the wedding so nothing left there at present especially as I am currently off work getting chemo.

System boiler or Combi for LPG?

Cost of the oil boiler and tank was a deciding factor I believe. Calor are currently offering an underground tank FOC provided we dig the hole which isn't a problem as her husband has access to a mini digger.

    Are fire bricks necessary?

Thanks for the replies. I will report back to my daughter and she can look at the available finishes.

System boiler or Combi for LPG?

Sorry. It is a 3 bed semi, living room with multifuel stove, smallish kitchen/diner, one bathroom. Solid walls, double glazing, well insulated loft. Two adults and two children.

System boiler or Combi for LPG?

Hi there. My daughter is getting a Calor LPG tank installed in her new (old) house as there is no gas in the village. She has been given different advice about the boiler she needs. One has told her to get a system boiler and keep the tank in the airing cupboard as running a Combi on LPG with...

    Are fire bricks necessary?

Thanks. The opening as it is is 36'' before finishing / lining and the stove is about 20'' I think ( need to measure it next time I am there ) so there should be an air gap of about 7'' all round when the opening has been prepared. So normal bricks with the appropriate mortar mix would be ok?
