    Galaxy G2 RF Fail

We've come home tonight to an error on the keypad, it seems all PIR sensors and door sensors are no longer communicating with the system. I'm assuming that the RF module could be knackered, is this common, and is a straightforward fix? I have the engineers code and have previously moved the...

Giving a plywood desk a gloss white look

Thanks, maybe I should go to ikea and see what they're like. I have some office furniture at the moment that I've been using for about 6 years, something like this...

Giving a plywood desk a gloss white look

I don't mind as long as its white, I had looked at ikeas Linnmon table tops but I don't they're durable enough for constant use.

Giving a plywood desk a gloss white look

I notice you can also get melamine covered MDF, for a 2.4m long desk, which would be better?

    Long length LED strip lights?

    Certainly helps, thank you.

Giving a plywood desk a gloss white look

Thanks, having had a look online, I kind of like the exposed edges, maybe clear varnish them and they would provide a nice contrast to the white.

Giving a plywood desk a gloss white look

We have a home office and I want to build a full length desktop out of plywood, and ideally give it a nice flat gloss white look. I'm unsure as to how I would go about doing this? The office gets used daily (I work from home), so whatever I put onto the plywood has to be durable. I have a...

    Long length LED strip lights?

We'd like to put the colour changing LED strip lights in our kitchen, both on top and below the wall units. The problem is there are three different sections to our kitchen which make it more difficult. We could achieve what we want by buying 6 LED strips off ebay, but it would mean switching...

Which charger for a kids 6v car?

I know this isn't strictly DIY but was hoping someone would be able to help. We have a 6v kids rid on car which we've lost the plug for. I have a number of similar plugs in the garage but none that seem to charge the car. The battery in the car is 6v 4.5ah, could anyone tell me what I'm...

Are you allowed to replace an RCB yourself?

The treadmill is connected via a normal plug. The only way we can use it is to run an extension from the house out to the garage, as that's the only way it doesn't trip. The RCD for the garage/office powers others things too, including; 2 x Apple iMacs 40 watt studio speakers 2 x HP...

Are you allowed to replace an RCB yourself?

Thanks for the response, I was going to check the cabling first, I've had a quick look at it, and it look like 4mm cable. But yes, maybe I'll ring an electrician on Monday. Any idea how much we would expect to pay for something like this (if it's a straight RCD swap).

Are you allowed to replace an RCB yourself?

We have a garage wired to it's own RCD which is rated to 16amps. A few years back we had an extension built behind the garage and it's wired to the same RCD, so the extension and the garage are wired to the same RCD. Anyway, we've bought a treadmill to go in the garage and we can't use it...

    Galaxy G2 and Raspberry Pi

I managed to get this working, but I had to swap out the 3k resistor for a 30k (20k+10k) and then 1k resistor for a 10k. This dropped the voltage down to 2.6v which is enough for the Pi to detect. It was suggested the using the smaller resistors may have put too much strain on the supply hence...

    Galaxy G2 and Raspberry Pi

Hi GalaxyGuy, I wonder if you can help. I've created the circuit above, but when I check the output it's only around 1v rather than 3.3v Instead of wiring the circuit up to the triggers, to track down the problem I've connected it directly to a 12v battery, and the output from the circuit was...

    Galaxy G2 and Raspberry Pi

According to the documentation... "Galaxy security panels have always been backwards compatible (with the exception of G2 panels). The oldest class of panels are now called XL (or classic) panels and the new ones G2, G3 and Galaxy Dimension (GD)." No idea if that means it will work or wont.

    Galaxy G2 and Raspberry Pi

I was just about to ask about the 3k resistor and I couldn't easily find any, and did wonder if I could wire three 1k resistors together, which you've asked. Thanks again for all of your help, I fully understand what needs to be done now. I plan to wire triggers up to intruder, set and unset...

    Galaxy G2 and Raspberry Pi

Can the ground be connected to a ground pin on the Raspberry Pi? Something like this? (excuse my crude drawing).

    Galaxy G2 and Raspberry Pi

I appreciate your input, thanks. I'm a little handy with home electrics but I'm struggling with the wiring diagram and wondered if you could explain the wiring diagram for me? I can see that I need a 3k and 1k resistor, so that bit it fine. Let's say I want to detect when the alarm is...

    Galaxy G2 and Raspberry Pi

Thanks for that. When the alarm is triggered I'm guessing the output of the trigger will rise and be able to be picked up on one of the Pi's IO pins?
