use PRV on unvented cylinder or separate PRV for balanced cold feed?

Hi all, I am looking at having an unvented system installed and in chatting to the installer they mentioned a lot of pre-plumbed unvented cylinders have a PRV fitted which can also supply a balanced cold supply. I am fitting a new 32mm water main and understand the PRV on the unvented cylinder...

how to improve ugly concrete driveway...

the driveway is currently a bit lower than the road so should contain the stone quite well. I can go about 120mm higher to match the level of the garage floor. So perhaps 70mm MOT then 50mm interlocking aggregate?

how to improve ugly concrete driveway...

thank you, so if I break it up would I need to add MOT type 1 or planings or anything or just stones on top? I have been looking at things like cotswold bluff chippings or mendip chipping, these are 2omm and interlocking so should be suitable shouldn't they?

how to improve ugly concrete driveway...

for some reason diynot will not let me add photos at the moment! If I break the drive up a bit then put planning over it would that work as a base for gravel and stop it sliding around too much?

how to improve ugly concrete driveway...

It’s got some cracking and lumps, £20/m isn’t bad compared to other expensive options but a lot more than gravel on top of plannings. Can anyone advise on my initial idea?

What’s this thing attached to my water main?

I have a stopcock in the house, but plan on relocating the main. So I believe I can isolate supply at the meter upstream and then work on this supply to run a new main to a new location, which I will then have a stopcock on?

What’s this thing attached to my water main?

haha I thought the same, not sure lead is worth enough for me to dig a 2ft trench to get it!!!

What’s this thing attached to my water main?

I am sure you are right, it was found in a manhole that was under a lot of debris/soil that hasn't been excavated for several years. So I would guess it is the old meter that is no longer read, but the house supply does pass through it. The house was extended in the 80's and the black MDPE at...

thanks for the reply, that stuff looks awesome but unfortunately I have about 120m2 and at £20 a m2 it would be a bit pricey! any cheaper ideas??

how to improve ugly concrete driveway...

Hi all, I have amn ugly concrete driveway that I want to improve without spending a fortune. I would like either shingle or something like mendip or cotswold chipping. But I understand these would slide around on concrete, so could I use a layer of planings on top of the concrete to act as a...

cost guide for new boiler and UV cylinder install

Hi all, I am looking at getting an unvented cylinder with a new boiler installed and would like to know rough costings. I know costings vary by job but if you assume the below: 300L unvented cylinder (3 bathrooms) boiler installed next to existing 22mm gas supply cylinder installed on the 1st...

What’s this thing attached to my water main?

Thank you, there’s a meter upstream of the blue mdpe in the pavement so I’m guessing this was an old one that is not in use now. I am relocating where the main enters the house so I should just be able to use a 90’ elbow and take 25mm mdpe to the new location and remove all this stuff I believe?

What’s this thing attached to my water main?

Hi all, started work on a new house and I discovered a manhole in the garden with blue mdpe coming from the meter then feeding into this lump and stopcock prior to carrying on to the house in what looks like black mdpe, what is it all? I can see the old disconnected lead main in the pit too.

Should I just go Gas or look at renewables?

Hi all, I am moving to a new house soon (new to me, 1910 construction!). It will need a new boiler and re-piping/rads all round. I will do as much work as possible myself to save costs (plus I enjoy it!) and was wondering if it is worth considering alternatives to a Gas boiler, such as...

Combi or conventional system if I want the ultimate shower experience??

What safety devices are there? I am talking about an open vented thermal store? (Well technically a heat bank as I am looking at ones with an external PHE. I thought due to the lack of pressure these had less safety requirements than an unvented cylinder?

Combi or conventional system if I want the ultimate shower experience??

So what does everyone think of the thermal store idea? I seem to be reading a huge amount of negative stuff about them on forums but can’t understand why the performance would differ that much to an unvented cylinder?

cost of unfinished two storey extension?

Hi all, I was wondering if anyone knows rough costings for a builder to make me an unfinished 2 storey extension? I am happy doing all electrics, plumbing, fitting out, plaster boarding etc. I would just need the brick shell constructing and roof putting on. The current house (that I plan to...
