    Surface Mounted Fused Spur

Thank you both for your replies, I appreciate it. The wall is tiled (the fused spur is for an under cabinet light, the double socket is just underneath so easy location to take a feed from) so anything sunken is not an option really. Both ideas sound good, neat trick with the extra long screws...

    Surface Mounted Fused Spur

Hi, I wish to take a surface mounted fused spur (and therefore surface mounted cabling) from a sunken double mains socket. Is there an acceptable way to do this please? Thank you.

    Rainwater Downpipe Into Grid

It already has a P trap, which I assume is the same thing?

    Rainwater Downpipe Into Grid

I did think that, but the leaves and debris will just clog up at the top then, instead of the bottom. And there is already a grid at the bottom, so cutting a hole for the downpipe to go straight into the grid cover is the only way I could think of to have no clogging up. Surely anything which...

    Rainwater Downpipe Into Grid

I have a garage which has the rainwater downpipe 'meeting' the drain grid cover at the bottom. There is no shoe at the bottom of the pipe, it simply ends/rests on the grid. Building inspector passed it like this. Trouble is, often with leaves/debris, the bottom of the pipe and top of the grid...

    12v Battery Lighting Options

Thanks for your reply Eric. Yes I intend to not let the battery discharge too much. I always think that, with all batteries, it is better to keep a decent amount of charge to keep them in good condition.

    12v Battery Lighting Options

Well I received the lights (very quick delivery), and they are really quaility, you would assume them to be £20 each, not just over £3. They are solid, good items. They are actually rated at 12v-24v, so the previous concerns as regards to overheating need not apply. Althought I got the set of...

    12v Battery Lighting Options

Thanks for your reply. I don't quite agree with your thoughts on the leisure battery, they can, and will, run for months without a charge, are happy to have a frequent deep discharge or remain topped up. Quite remarkable things when compared to a normal car battery really!

    12v Battery Lighting Options

Thank you for the link and info, interesting thoughts about the possibility of overheating. The lights will be run on a leisure battery however, not a car battery, they are two different animals of course. I did briefly consider the LED bulbs such as those in the link you provided, they are...

    12v Battery Lighting Options

Thanks again, to you both. Excellent info. Yes I don't expect the ebay ones to be brilliant, but you never know! And they are very small at a size of just 80 x 60 x 30mm. I will sleep on it but I do think I'll give them a whirl.

    12v Battery Lighting Options

I never thought of that, yes definitely an option. But for just over £13 (and free postage) I can get four 12v 10w floodlights from ebay, not sure how good they are but worth a go I think? -...

    12v Battery Lighting Options

Thanks very much for your reply, excellent info, I appreciate that. At the moment then, I am favouring having two 12v 10w floodlights (I have a portable rechargeable 5w floodlight which I have held up to test as I too was concerned about it being too much of a spotlight, but it seemed great), at...

    12v Battery Lighting Options

Hi, I am wanting to run some lighting in a garage, using a 12v leisure battery. Just looking at options. I am unsure about a few things, so please could you answer - 1. Are 12v CFL Edison screw bulbs like these http://warmsoles.co.uk/product/12v-cfl-lamps-for-solar-lighting-systems-caravans/...

How Does This Tap Come Apart?

Just thought I'd mention that I was able to get the top off. It was a normal handed thread. The latex gloves tip is a good one, it's the only way I could grip it. I poured boiling water onto the top bit several times, followed by cold. It expanded it enough (I assume) to break the seal and it...

How Does This Tap Come Apart?

Thanks for all the replies, much appreciated. That's interesting, you mentioning that it has a reverse thread, as the taps turn opposite ways to operate. i.e. the cold turns anti-clockwise (I think) to come on, and the hot one turns the opposite way. So, are the threads on both tap heads reverse...

How Does This Tap Come Apart?

The turning of them is really light, and they do not pressure tighten like a standard tap. Why do they make these things so difficult to maintain though. Just had another go, can't get it off. What would you guys do if called out to a job like this?

How Does This Tap Come Apart?

I was afraid that would be the answer! Thanks for the reply. What a silly design, what is wrong with these people! Any tips on how to unscrew the thing, been trying for a while, just can't seem to get a grip on it, even tried gripper gloves. No special tools I can buy? Before I reach for the...

How Does This Tap Come Apart?

I have a leaky tap which I need to fix. Anyone know how it comes apart? I'm assuming that the uppermost part unscrews but that seems silly as it's impossible to grip. Thanks.

Always On Outdoor Light - Best Type

Thanks for your reply. I can tell you that in the last five years approx. (as the cameras in question have been up longer than three years, it's just that the lighting was changed then, before that there was a different kind of energy light but the bulbs needing changing too often, and before...
