    Painting plywood

I intend to replace some plasterboard with the same thickness plywood. I want the finish to be indistinguishable from the existing painted plasterboard. Is there a paint or woodfiller or some other product that I can apply to get the desired result?

Hanging kitchen cupboards on plasterboard walls

What is the best way to hang kitchen cupboards on plasterboard walls? I’ve been told that the gold standard is to cut away a 10” strip of plasterboard where the fixing hooks will go and replace with plywood. Many people that I’ve spoken with don’t trust plasterboard fixing screws. Is there an...

Fixing a shower chair to a plasterboard wall

My mother is disabled and has a wetroom but no shower chair to sit on. The plasterboard walls are all tiled. Frankly I don’t trust any of the fixing options available. My plan is to remove the tiles on the desired wall and but away the plasterboard and replace with plywood, then retile. Is...

    Plastering onto plywood

I intend to put up some new cupboards in my kitchen. It has been suggested to me that since my walls are plasterboard I should cut away the plasterboard and replace with playwood for a good fixingproble. With that is the finish. There will be about 3-4”around the top and sides of the cupboards...

Adding another light switch and lamp holder

Ah yes. Just as a suspected. I should get into the loft and somehow get a cable (L/N/E) from the existing light fitting (cdilng rose) and bring it to the new hall light I have installed. Then I need to drop another cable from the new light to the new switch. What I've done is take a cable from...

Adding another light switch and lamp holder

So... i would need to run a cable from the loft light itself and connect it to the hall light? Is my current setup safe? I no it's not ideal, but is it safe. The Wiki?

Adding another light switch and lamp holder

Yeah, I'm beginning to realise that. So how do i make it right? why doesn't the loft switch have a neutral? If I were to take a look at the other swiches in my house would i find others without neutral wires?

There isn't a neutral there. That was my first problem. The is only a red to the comkn and a black (red sheafed) to L1.

Adding another light switch and lamp holder

With grammar like that I question your ability to communicate effectively in this forum. Only joking. Look, I have a working light. It isn't perfect, but I'll get there, hopefully with your help. I'm a firm believer in trying to do things for yourself. Plus people are constantly trying to...

Adding another light switch and lamp holder

The two browns are my cable. The wires in the existing loft switch are red and black. The black has a red sheaf on it.

Adding another light switch and lamp holder

Ok, I'll take another look. The cable and switch were in my shed. I don't remeber how they came to be the bulb works fine in my lamp... The only existing wires i have to work with are a red one going to the common and a black one gong to L1 on the loft switch. No neutral.

Adding another light switch and lamp holder

I think I'm back feed now. I've connect the remaining brown from the loft switch (L2) to the FEED 2 on the hall switch. Load live 1 and load neutral on the hall switch now go to the cup light. It is "working" after a fashion. If i turn the loft light on the cupboard light stops working. Also...

Adding another light switch and lamp holder

Sorry for the confusion here. I appreciate you helping me. I'll try my best to expain what i have. First of all let me say that i had to change the new intended light switch. The picture of the one i posted was faulty. The one I have now is labled feed live 1 and feed neutral 1. Above that I...

IMG_0143 by Lieutenant Columbo posted 15 Sep 2017 at 11:36 AM So I'm wondering where the earth goes, SP stands for, and the 1 and 2. Basically I only know for certain that the common is the permanent live in. The wiring i looked up on the internet is totally different. They have L1 and L2. I...

    Fire regulations/landlord responsibilities

Ideally I would like to quote some regulation at them, or have so,ething to show that proves that fitting the doors is unnecessary. In the UK, are doors required to separate the kitchen from another room? I see plenty of houses where the kitchens have no doors. Flats often have one large room...
