How long to leave woodwork before painting?

Hello All, I've replaced the door facings and skirtings in our hallway with soft wood mouldings. The timber was left in the house for a week to allow it to get used to the ambient temperature etc. Do I need to leave it any longer? I have used various caulks in the past, the last one was...

    Strange downlight problems

Hello All, I fitted 4 downlights in our dining room about 3 months ago. They are mains powered without transformers all operated by the same switch. For some reason 2 of them have stopped working. I've checked the bulbs (GU10) and they are ok. They have power going to the bulb holders...

    Viessmann Vitodens F222

Hi Alec, it's a constant temp model. Could be the pump. Just concerned as it seems to be running non-stop for over a week now.

    Viessmann Vitodens F222

Hi, is it normal for the fan to run continuously on this boiler? I have one fitted with UFH and rads upstairs. Even when there's no demand for heat or hot water it is running. :?

    Cavity wall gas meter box.

Hi, I have a cavity wall mounted meter box which has a 15mm supply routed through the back, into the house supplying a gas fire. The pipework is behind the plasterboard. I would like to have GCH installed as it's currently storage heaters. This would need a new 22mm supply from the meter...

    Soakers or cover flashing?

Hello All, I'm replacing the roof covering on a bay window. The current one is sheet lead and is beginning to tear in places. I've got a load of clay peg tiles that I'm going to use instead as they match the rest of the house. Do I need to use a cover flashing where the tiles meet the...

    Slate paving slabs indoors?

It's a 1930s refurb. We're replacing the suspended timber floors with a solid, reinforced, insulated slab. The biggest room is approx 6 x 7 mtr. I'll look in to the expansion joints issue but at doorways seems to make sense too.

    Slate paving slabs indoors?

Just the ground floor of a 3 bed semi. The screed has not been spec'd with expansion joints, just the standard perimeter expansion. I can't see any info on the calibaration of them.

    Slate paving slabs indoors?

They're real slate. I thought they'd just be a thicker version of a standard slate floor tile. They're the Marshall Midnight Blue 600x600mm. http://www.building-supplies-online.co.uk/marshalls-natural-slate-paving-midnight-blue-600x300-pk100-4653-p.asp?gclid=CIHYwteRhrECFQQhtAodcVgz-g The...

    Slate paving slabs indoors?

Hello All, I've got an area of 60sqm to tile. I have been offered a good deal on a load of 600x600 Marshalls patio slates. These are obviously thicker (20-23mm) than indoor slate floor tiles. We're also having wet UFH which will be screeded to suit the finish. Is there any reason not to...

    Catnic Cougar lintel on timber?

Is it ok to install a CG lintel directly beneath a timber wall plate or is there a minimum amount of brickwork required between the two? Cheers, J

    Hollow soffits

I have just fitted the same thing but in short lengths rather than long runs (so the groove ran 90 degree to the house not parallel). It is very flimsy stuff at only 9mm thick so definitely needs something behind it to firm it up a bit. Can't you get it in 18mm?

    68mm weather collar?

Cheers Xenon, I've fitted a Flexi-Slate but wanted a weathering collar just to give it a bit more protection. Thanks for the offer but I'll see how it holds up.
