Where can I get a good quality hose?

I think that part of the problem is that I've always bought those plastic self-contained hose reel units with an integrated winder handle. Getting the hose neatly coiled up again afterwardscan be a pain and probably damages it. Maybe I should go for an open reel?

Where can I get a good quality hose?

I'm tired of buying the Hozelock antikink stuff from places like B&Q and having it end up kinked or puntured after a year or two. A friend suggested using airline but I'm not sure where to get it or whether I would find suitable attachments for the diameter of that pipe. Does anyone have...

Fridge freezer operating in cold temperatures?

Hi big-all, Thanks for the reponse. Therefore I need to fool the fridgefreezer into thinking that it is warmer than it actually is....either by bypassing the thermostat or adding a heater :?

Fridge freezer operating in cold temperatures?

I want to move our spare fridge freezer into the garage. Temperatures in here fall below 0 in winter. Someone (electrian friend) has suggested that the fridge freezer may not operate in temperatures so cold. Can anyone elaborate on this?

    Tiling around a trapdoor

We are about to tile a kitchen floor. Behind the back door is a trapdoor. It currently has a a metal "frame" around it which sits neatly on top of the existing laminate. If we plywood and then tile the floor, will we refit the metal frame over the tiles or just leave the tile edges bare...

Will our shower work with combi?

Well, folks, here is the conclusion... Our Baxi 105e combi was installed 2 weeks ago and all works perfectly - including the shower which is now much more powerful than it was when previously fed from a pump and header tank arrangement. It actually hurts your head to stand under it...

Central heating - what is a "one pipe system"?

So...to return to the topic of a one pipe system... What happens if/when I want to remove and replace a particular radiator? It might be off the wall for a few days to allow for decorating and such. Will this effectively cut off all of the other radiators after it in the "chain"...

    Who needs circuit breakers?

A good friend of mine has taught for a great many years and suggests that the standards have slackened considerably in his time. Still - it's subjective and this may be only his perception. What winds me up more than anything though is this ridiculous "everyone's a winner" attitude that they...

Exterior wall lights with ambient light sensor?

I'm wanting to install 3 or 4 exterior lights around the sides of the house which automatically come on when it starts to get dark and stay on until daylight. I first considered having them all powered from the same point which had a timer plug on it, but this would then need adjusting...

Central heating - what is a "one pipe system"?

We had some plumbers fitting a combi boiler recently one one of sounded very surprised when he discovered that our central heating was on a "one pipe system". Can someone please enlighten me!?

Kitchen cupboards - tile around or under?

We would prefer to have the floor and walls totally tiled. Our only worry is that the installer may be delayed by having to do all of this and wait for them to set, etc. - I guess I'll have to see what he says when he comes to do the pre-installation survey.

Kitchen cupboards - tile around or under?

We're getting a new kitchen soon and are hoping to get the MFI fitter to do some tiling after he's ripped the old one out. Just wondered if it's best to tile under the new cupboards or around them. Cost isn't an issue, but I'm thinking that it would delay the installation of the cupbaords as...

Intruder alarm cable - can we break and rejoin?

Our intruder alarm does not have any slack on the cables leading to the PIRs - this will be a problem due to some rome rennovation work. Is it acceptable to cut, lengthen and rejoin or should a new length be run (it's a fairly long run in awkward locations)?

    Which brand sockets are best?

We just had a new distribution board fitted and plan to rewire the house in sections over the next couple of months. What brand sockets are best? Someone said MK but I'm not sure if they do brushed steel sockets (to match kitchen hardware). Are there any other decent/better brands?

Electrician wants to test entire system before working

Another contact tells me that if rewiring then the electrician may also need to adjust the height of any sockets / switches due to new regs. Is this for the handicapped? What next!? It needs rewiring because the cable is British-made and should now be sourced in the EU!? Fair enough, I...

Electrician wants to test entire system before working

We need some extra plug sockets fitting in our 1966 semi - each room (except the kitchen and lounge) typically has just one single socket. I also want a new distribution board as I'm tired of changing fuse wire. I had an electrician round last night who basically refused to do any work...

Will our shower work with combi?

We spoke to the plumber again and he basically confirmed that no combi would ever supply a shower as well as one like ours that is pumped from a cylinder / header tank. He said that if it was done right then we should still have a "decent" shower. Of course, none of us will know until the...

    PUMP NOT KICKING IN ??????

This is probably a totally different problem to ours but... We had a problem in our old house whereby the water fed to our pump from the header tank sometimes did not have anough pressure to allow the pump to activate when the shower was switched on - probably because (due to the very limited...

Rusty plaster edgings - how to treat?

We are about to decorate our small bedroom. However, around each side of the window, there is a small amount of rust that has "bled through" the old paintwork from the metal plaster edgings. How do we treat this so that we can repaint?

    Drilled through the ring main

Having installed laminate flooring in my old property, I then laid down batons around the room edges along with a wooden block against the 2" step to the door. Decided to fasten the wooden block down with some 5 inch screws. Ran over the area with a metal detecter first...nothing. So I...
