Shower waste - fall too shallow

I suspect the shower waste pipe has been fitted with too shallow an incline - a little puddle always pools at the end of a shower. How big/costly a job is it to raise the shower tray to achieve a better fall? I wouldnt do it myself - but want to see if it's sensible to call a plumber, or not...

    Unblocking shower drain

I'm sure this topic has been done to death, but... Our shower was recently blocked - lifting up the drainhole discovered a whole mass of hair and slime and a nasty smell of what I presume is stagnant water. I've removed all the hair but some slime remains and I can't get access to it...

Correct procedure for a suspended floor - and how to rectify

You've got a good memory from last year... Been a long ongoing saga of hassle and stress. Only 'advantage' of it not being resolved yet is that the more I've investigated, the more problems I've discovered. Didnt get a penny from him so had to use retention up long ago. The...

Correct procedure for a suspended floor - and how to rectify

Thanks for your help. In these cases is early prevention important? I.e. if I'm not sure what's actually down there, is it worth having a look now (despite inconvenience of lifting some of the floor) or should I just sit tight and wait for something to go wrong? Btw, LABC are no help on...

Correct procedure for a suspended floor - and how to rectify

My extension (built a yr ago) has a suspended timber floor. Am I correct that: 1. There needs to be concrete oversite? 2. That apart from a DPC on the external walls, there also needs to be a DPM on the ground (or if not, at least over the edges where timbers meet walls)? 3. That airbricks...

    Telescopic camera thingys

Will a drain camera do the trick? Cost about £110 a day from HSS but if I can get something cheaper, that would be preferable Also - would LABC be happy to inspect per the CCTV or would they want the steel properly exposed and inspected?

    Telescopic camera thingys

Anyone know where I can inexpensively hire one of the aforementioned telescopic camera thingys? We need to get some RSJs exposed and inspected and it might save a lot of mess and redecorating costs. Cheers

'Hole' in shower partition - how to block up?

Our walk-in shower leaks - I discovered that there's a gap in one corner of the shower and water just leaks out on the other side: . What's the best way to block it up? I'm very much a novice DIYer (if that) but I'd imagine the gap's too big to just silicone it all up. I'm...

Moved dryer - now lino is messed up

I slid my dryer forward to fit a new vent hose at the back. The back feet of the dryer caught on the lino so I pushed the dryer back into place. However, now the lino is all 'lumpy' - I can't smooth it down entirely (if I smooth one end down, the other 'swells up'). The funny thing is that...

Unsure if RSJ fitted correctly - metallic noise if kids jump

Transpires he subbed it out to a very experienced builder with a very crap reputation. His work is atrocious - I need no convincing. Walls: Foilbacked insulation stuck to 9 single skin. Have to hope for the best. Floor: Suspended timber. LABC didnt inspect so cant advise what oversite there...

Unsure if RSJ fitted correctly - metallic noise if kids jump

They used Kingspan insulation boards INSIDE the house, then plasterboard and plaster skim. I only discovered all this long after the job was finished. Still, I agree with you - something definitely not right here. LABC apparently had no problem with builders disregarding specs, and never...

Unsure if RSJ fitted correctly - metallic noise if kids jump

You're right. The contractor disregarded the plans. I confronted him recently about this and he just said that the builders had license to disregard the plans as and when they went about their job and that they were just general plans (or some other rubbish like that). I'm getting suspicious...

Unsure if RSJ fitted correctly - metallic noise if kids jump

Well, I'm concerned that while it hasnt fallen through yet, the absence of padstones and the chance that it may not have been bolted properly, could mean i have problems in a couple of years time... is the metallic sound normal?

Unsure if RSJ fitted correctly - metallic noise if kids jump

Here's 2 photos taken during the building works - not sure how helpful (NB Can anyone also confirm if it looks from these photos like there's a concrete oversite)
