New Cooker Install - Socket Distance?

Hi, I'm not installing anything myself, but just interested in the correct way of doing things :) My current cooker is a free-standing type, and there is a cooker socket on the wall about a meter away from the cooker itself, and behind the cooker is the electrical point to hard wire a...

    Power to a trailer?

Just double checked, and out Earthing System is TN-C-S, which means I cannot use it as it won't be under supervision. But, what does (ii) of 717.411.4 mean when it says: the suitability and effectiveness of the means of earthing has been confirmed before connection is made. How do you...

    Power to a trailer?

Here is a rough pic of the trailer location. Unfortuntaley it cannot go near the building due to it needed to be loaded up. We did think about a metal post bolted to the floor, but from other damaged we've had from the fork-lift/wagons we didn't think it would last long! I had a read...

    Power to a trailer?

I will get the exact size of the refrigerated unti this afternoon when it stops raining! We have loads of 4mm SY cable which I would probably use, so for the distance the VD will be ok. Although I haven't worked it out yet (which I will). It isn't permanent as such, as it's a stop gap...

    Power to a trailer?

Also, Section 717.52.1 says a flexible cable is permitted to connect to the unit. How long can this flexible cable be? I.e. 25m ok?

    Power to a trailer?

Problem: We have a refrigerated trailer which needs power to it to keep it cold when it isn't hooked up to a cab. The trailer is approx 25m away from the building, and stays there all week. Until a Friday when an empty tailer comes and the full one taken away! The 'easiest' option is a...

    Toilet Flusher Help

Hi All, My sister has broke her toilet, in the sense it is hard for her to flush, as she has snapped the Centre Push button from the middle of it, but some of the 'stick bit' as she calls it which was attached to it. Whats the easiest way for ME to fix it? She doesn't mind buying new...

    Cooker Cable Size

Hi, Sorry for the late reply! My landlord will be getting an electrician in to do it. But he wants me to have everything ready, as the electrician is 'so busy' he said. So I need to check the MCB, and if ok I can use 6mm2 Flex, but not T+E? Thanks.

    Cooker Cable Size

Hi, Just got a new cooker, which the landlord will install, if I get everything needed. The cooker didn't come with any cables unfortunately. Is twin and earth ok to use? It will just be 1m long, from the back of the cooker, to the box on the wall (box made for a cooker with terminals in)...

    Broken Toilet Cistern Help

Hi, All of a sudden, my toilet seemed to take literally an hour to fill up. It seems, and I'm not sure why, but instead of coming through the normal filling hole, it was coming through the ball valve seal bit.... Then today when cleaning my teeth, all of a sudden a lot of water started to...

    Existing Power to Garage.

Yeah, I thought the cable might have to be changed to be honest.... Is it within the regs to use a waterproof junction box? As this would work quite well for me I think. I could also take the cable in to the gargae, at the wall nearest the house to reduce the run, and exposed area etc

    Existing Power to Garage.

Hi, thank you for your reply. I did mean 16A sorry, my fat fingers got in the way of me typing! 1). As I or the new owner of the house isn't sure at what depth etc it is buried at, I think it's safe to say it needs a RCD in the house then really! Although they are getting the CU changed...

    Existing Power to Garage.

My friend has a new house, with power to it....and really it's not too safe. It's fed from the main Consumer Unit off a 15A trip with no RCD, in 2.5mm T+E. This goes in to a double socket, and everything else is spurred off this socket, which includes another double socket, two separate...
