Yes, you're probably right. The thing is, it looks relatively easy on paper, but when you actually start to do it you usually hit snags and it becomes a real pain in the backside.

I'm not a DIY guy John, I explained that. I wouldn't know how to sharpen a chisel, it sounds by the instructions of the back of the packet that it's yet more hassle finding and buying things from B&Q. And all these other technical terms you use mean little to me.

Sharpen it? I just bought it today, lol. The wood on these reinforcement blocks is much firmer than on the rest of the door, that's the trouble.

Hello, I've been on holiday recently and when I came back to my flat I noticed there's a musty smell coming from a couple of the rooms. What's the best way of getting rid of this?

I've got a Hotpoint and I seem to remember someone telling me that it uses the hot water tap at the beginning of the cycle, and it heats the water if it needs to.

I got hold of an instruction manual for it off the internet, and it explains how to clear blockages. Will give it a try.

The Dyson Dual Cyclone vaccum cleaner I've had for a few years is giving me trouble. It still works at sucking things up from the bottom, but when I remove the hand attachment to do the skirting boards for example, there is no suction. How would I go about unblocking it? Thanks.

The windows in my flat are what I would call panel windows, they are pretty flimsy. The gap between the two glass panes in each panel is only about 1cm I'd say. How good is this at keeping the cold out? TIA.

Sorry, I got it slightly wrong. The draught is blowing in where the window meets the metal frame at the bottom. The draught proofing on it has probably perished over the years.
