Can I repair a pushfit stop end with plumber's mait?

I have a push fit stop end on the end of an old rad intake (the rad is no longer there). Is there any way to repair this without having to drain the entire system? Maybe some plumber's mait, or does this need the surface to be dry?

Can I just cap when removing a radiator permenantly?

I have a Promax HE plus combi boiler. I know how to remove a radiator for decorating (drain system, etc). However if I want to remove it permanently, can I just cap off the feed and return valves, or do I need to connect them to maintain a loop? Thanks

    Loft hatch installation

No, it's not a false ceiling. It's an extension on an old part of the building, so maybe that's it? Alternatively, I am told this could be the result of a previous water tank being in the roof?

    Loft hatch installation

I want to install a new loft hatch (a completely new job, cutting into the plasterboard ceiling). However, I've been up into the loft through another access and we have some unusual 'criss-crossing' ceiling joists. Each are 4in x 2in beams and are c.60cm apart, like below: Is this likely to...

    How to wire electric blinds

Hi, I'm looking to purchase 4 remote controlled blackout roller blinds. I'd like to have them connected to 4 switches in a single grid plate, so they match my light switches. I'd like each switch to control a blinds individually (using a 3 position retractive switch - up/down/off). I...

How should I repair this crack?

It's difficult to see, we're a 5th floor flat so I can't easily get outside. This is a load bearing external wall, with the roof above it. When you say it's quite serious, does that mean the wall could fall down or just that the crack could spread?

How should I repair this crack?

I have a crack on an internal wall. I took the plaster off, and it looks like the crack goes into the brick. How should I repair this? "Deep gap" filler or brick mortar? Thanks

how to use a 3 position retractive light switch as a dimmer

Thanks @deadshort. When I search for Schneider electronic dimmer I get self contained units, that are not rockers (http://www.rbstarelectrical.co.uk/collections/schneider-electric/dimmer). Is there a part (the "master dimmer"?) which sits behind the plate and connects to the reactive push part?

how to use a 3 position retractive light switch as a dimmer

Thanks @deadshort. I'm a newbie to this, so forgive me - what's a master dimmer and what is a slave op? Do you have any examples you could provide?

how to use a 3 position retractive light switch as a dimmer

I'd like to install a dimmer switch to control my lighting. I know you can get rotary dimmers like these: http://goo.gl/kuPhwq, which are the usual way to install this. Instead, I would like to use a 3 way retractive switch for dimming. I've seen 3 position retractive switch modules from...

    Mysterious outages in lighting circuit

I have recently replaced a single pendant light on a 10amp circuit to 5 x 6W LED lights with a 77W extractor fan, all wired via the same pull switch. At first everything worked fine, however intermittently either one or all of the lights refuses to switch on, or the entire loop stops working...

Does a "real" presence sensor exist, or are all PIRs motion-based?

@ban-all-sheds Do you need a hug? You seem upset, almost all the time.

Does a "real" presence sensor exist, or are all PIRs motion-based?

Do you know if an alternate sensor type exists that could achieve this?

Yes, I wanted to try something more adventurous though! Does this sort of thing exist?

    Can I use a 4 core wire for a 2 core purpose?

I have a 3 core and earth in the ceiling used to wire a PIR switch to lights, but want to replace the PIR with a pull switch (2 core only). Can I simply cut and tape the unused cores to make them safe, or do I need to find the junction box to disconnect them at the other end too and replace it...

Does a "real" presence sensor exist, or are all PIRs motion-based?

I want to add a presence sensor to my bathroom. I know you can get a standard PIR sensor with a timer delay, however these still turn off if you are in the room but remain still after the time delay elapses. Does such a thing as a real presence sensor exist? I.e. one that would remain on for...
