    Window Cleanup

Hi thank you so much definitely helps. There was previously a beading covering the old sill that had to come off in order to get the old window board off. It was the old beading covering the residue. I’m considering getting a new horizontal and if that doesn’t work, longer vertical beading...

    Window Cleanup

Hi, We recently had a window board replaced. Previously there was a plastic beading along the window board to cover a gap, I understand this was removed in order to get the old board off. This has left us with the current situation -The PVC where the board was previously glued on is a mess -...

    What goes here? Window

Hi, I am stripping a room ready to be plastered. There is a gap between the window and the wall, is this normal? What is normally done here should it just be silicon after plastering or does this need a beading?

    Removing wallpaper glue

Hi John. Sorry for the late reply. Yes I was doing that. I can’t tell whether I am shaving the wall off or it is glue that is coming off but it doesn’t look like glue. It is grey.

    Removing wallpaper glue

Hi John. Yes. I can’t see glue but if I wet the wall it becomes obvious there is glue on it. It doesn’t seem the wash off just spreads around. I tried a scrap but I don’t get glue from it just fine grey bits which I think is the wall rather than the glue coming off.

    Removing wallpaper glue

Hi John. There are no scraps I’ve removed all. The problem is I can’t see the glue so it’s difficult to scrap it off. When I do use my wide scraper I get something off on certain parts of this wall but I think this is grey plaster rather than glue. If I could see it and not just feel it it...

I was planning on painting and not using lining paper. Is this a bad idea?

    Removing wallpaper glue

It was wet when I tried to sand it and the glue was just causing a grey layer on the sandpaper almost immediately causing it to stop working. Do you think I’d be able to send the remaining glue off?

    Removing wallpaper glue

Ok thanks both. Any ideas how to cover floors? We have a large dust sheet but I’m worried the water is just running down the walls and into the floor. Currently got no beading so expansion gap is exposed.

    Removing wallpaper glue

Hi We have stripped old wallpaper that was directly laid into plaster. All the wallpaper is removed but we just can’t get the remaining glue residue off. You can’t really see it but the wall is sticky and can’t be sanded. Any ideas on how to get this residue off? We have tried wallpaper...

    No key to Eurocylinder

Ok cheers Chris. We need to get the front door lock replaced anyway so I’ll probably get a locksmith in to do both.

    No key to Eurocylinder

I am pretty good at diy but never anything lock related. I imagine I could unscrew the lock to allow the door to open but I wouldn’t know how to replace the lock. Any tips?

    No key to Eurocylinder

Hi. We just moved home and the previous owner had lost the patio door key. Is there any easy fix to get a new key or do we need to get a locksmith in? Photo attached.

    Gap between window and sill

Thanks Ken. On the paint, do you mean you would just use masonry paint or you wouldn’t paint it?

    Gap between window and sill

Hi. I am sanding and painting the windows as they a bit of a mess. Any idea what to fill the gap between the sill and the window with? I bought exterior sealant but it says it can’t be painted. The sill tiles are also a bit of a mess. Do people generally just paint these with masonry paint?
