    4 Lights in parallel

Just a real quick question this one guys: I want to wire 4 x 60watt ceiling lights so that they all come on via the same switch (wired in parallel looks like what I want according to ref section). Can any switch do this? Or do I need to get one that can handle 4 x 60w (240watts)? Does the...

    Earth Bonding

Hi all Just read a thread on earth bonding which has forced me to ask my own question. How exactly does Earth bonding work? What needs to be bonded and to what? I know the earth wires for appliances on electrical items get connected, which lead back to the consumer unit earth, but what...

    My first soldering attempt

I'm using the solder-ring type joints, so it applies the solder itself. Should you wipe all visible traces of flux away from the pipe before you apply the heat, so that the only flux on the pipe is inside the joint? Was I right to do this? Thanks again

    My first soldering attempt

Wow, thanks for all the replies guys! :D In answer to some of the questions: My blowtorch is a Taymar, with the detachable can of gas. Comes as a pack in diy stores. I gave the pipe a GOOD smear of flux, and wiped away all traces of it once the elbow joint was in place (so none left...

    My first soldering attempt

Hi all Just tried my very first soldering attempt on 15mm copper pipe using solder-ring fittings. How long is it SUPPOSED to take before the silver ring appears around the joint. I was there with my blowtorch for ages (good few minutes)before it happened - even had smoke coming out of the...

    Regulations this... Regulations that!

As I said in my post "an electric shower". I'm assuming that there aren't different regulations for different models! Thanks Slugbabydotcom. I'll look into these regs. :D

    Regulations this... Regulations that!

Hi all Can someone please highlight what regulations I need to know about when installing a shower. I've heard so many different regulations that I'm now very confused. I'm only actually replacing a shower that broke, but let's say I'm installing an electric shower from scratch...

    Hiding those pipes!

Thanks for all the replies. I'm gonna look for the electrical stuff I think. I've got to attach it on top of tiles and only need to go about 16 inches (from the ceiling to the top of the shower unit). It's not worth screwing in pipes clips (through the tiles) for such a short run. It's...

    Hiding those pipes!

It sounds like the stuff I want is the electrical stuff then. I've only got to go about 12 inches (from the ceiling to the top of the shower).

    Hiding those pipes!

Thanks mate. I assume the "thorsman trunking" is the stuff with the clip on front?

    Hiding those pipes!

Hi guys Can someone point me in the direction of somewhere that sells trunking to hide 15mm piping. I'm after the stuff that has the clip-on front (about 40mm wide and deep enough for copper pipe). I've tried Wickes, Homebase and B&Q and none of them do it. I pulled the old...

    240v or 230v ?

Thanks for the replies. The reason I asked was that I have to replace my shower at home. I took out a 7KW shower and am replacing it with a 7KW shower (the same). However, the cabling used for the one I'm taking out is only 4mm, and is supplied on a 30A trip from the consumer unit. I was...

    240v or 230v ?

Can someone please clarify for me; are UK electrics 240 Volt or 230 Volt? Different websites seem to state different ratings. Thanks

    Electrical Rating help please!

Hi I need to replace the shower in our bathroom. The old shower was an Aquatron EII 7kw shower, which was being fed by 4mm2 cable. The shower I bought to replace it is a Triton Ivory 2 rated at 8.5kw (although the packing states 7.8-8.5kw). My questions are: 1) Do I need to replace...
