    Reuseing collated screws??

Anyone had any experience of re-using the plastic strips and putting screws in once it's been used? I've been asked to help a mate out with plasterboarding out an extension, and he's got all the drywall screws (loose), I was wondering if we could sit (and be bored) and fill up a few strips...

Repairing cracked plaster in victorian terrace.

This house is in an area, where there was very light bombing during our nations trouble history. In more recent years the council however decided to put in speed bumps, so that the student boy (and girl) racers, lorries and postoffice vans could scream down her road and use them as BMX ramps...

Repairing cracked plaster in victorian terrace.

Great! that makes it sound less harrowing than before... (I'm no pro plasterer - but i do love it, just so relaxing and rewarding), i digress! Hopefully the lathes will be in ok nick (bearing in mind that this room has not been decorated in at least 60 years, and that the ceiling is probably...

Repairing cracked plaster in victorian terrace.

Oh (rats!). Would it be possible to remove the plaster to reveal the lathe....then (if all is good) go over with bonding mix? [might this be looked at as being a cowboy finish?] Or if the nibs have broken off, take them back to the last joist and replace them? Or are them nailed in from...

Loft Boarding (I'm a bit confused)

OK, now for a silly Question/Assumption...... You put the 3X1 flat on the joist, running at right angles to the ceiling joists of the loft..... then have the T&G set so it rests in the middle of the counter baton. use 400 centres?

Loft Boarding (I'm a bit confused)

So what would be the best option here... 3X1 or 2X1 - or is it just down to cost?

Loft boarding _HELP, and some considerations

It is my intension to board the loft, and would appriciate a little direction. As far as counter batons, i was thinking 2X2, is this enough - ALSO, since lost joists are not usually as strong as floor joists when is weight likely to become an issue? Would it be better to use a stronger...

plastering tools for new plastering skills

A have always wanted to turn my hand to plastering, but have only had the oppertunity to do very small jobs like sorting out the large cracks in the walls. A friend of mine who can plaster rather well has said he will teach me, but i will need to "get some trowels and stuff", as he only has...

    strucural wall?

how do i know if a wall is load bearing? Is it as simple as saying there is another wall on top upstairs? I'm guessing i'd find out if i put a hole in it and it either stays put or falls down - but i'd rather not take the risk!

I'm putting in some concrete slabs to support the joists for a section of decking. I intend to concrete the slabs down to secure them and also i have loads of sand and cement left over from a previous project. What would be the best mix to use, i was thinking 3:1? But then again, does it...

    Decking base?

I'm fairly new to this myself, and am learning alot on a very steep curve! One bit of advice i would say is about bolting two frames together. I found when i put the joists to the posts (which i did with notched joints rather than straight to the side, so how i found out....) Make sure the...
