Would you recommend a sail shade here?

Yeah, I've seen these and I quite like them. If we can turn, angle it then I think it'll work really nicely. Will run it past the mrs to see what she thinks.

Would you recommend a sail shade here?

Thanks for the reply, as explained in my post I already have internal blinds. I'm trying to add shade to the patio area whilst boosting the level of shade inside.

Would you recommend a sail shade here?

We're having the garden landscaped at the moment and as it faces south west, we get a lot of sun through the kitchen/patio doors...although not when this pic was taken: While we have internal blinds, the heat gain/glare is still quite annoying so I'm looking at a number of options to shade...

Should I replace this PVC roof lantern?

Update: I ended up finding a roofer who was happy to replace the flat roof with GRP and install a Korniche lantern for me. I then found EOS Rooflights: https://www.eosrooflights.co.uk/ who supplied a insulated upstand to fit the reveal and a Korniche lantern to fit the upstand. Total cost was...

Should I replace this PVC roof lantern?

You can see in this pic from when we bought the house that the living room would probably become quite dark if the roof lantern were removed. That said...I'm sure we could make it work but if the flat roof needs to be rebuilt, I'd quite happily pay a bit extra to the natural light coming in.

Should I replace this PVC roof lantern?

What would you suggest as an alternative? Do away with the roof lantern and replace with 2x solid glass roof lights or something?

Should I replace this PVC roof lantern?

First quote from a local builder to replace the flat roof and upgrade the lantern...£9000 :(

Should I replace this PVC roof lantern?

    Might be a tad dark!

Should I replace this PVC roof lantern?

A quick Google would appear to suggest that you are right. I wondered where there was no upstand and it 'featured' a gutter around the edge. Could the upstand be built first based on the dimensions of the reveal on the inside? This would give me an idea of the size of roof lantern I'd need to...

Should I replace this PVC roof lantern?

We moved into our current house about a year ago. You can see that our dining room has a roof lantern roughly 2.5 x 2.5m in size. The previous owners went for what I think must have been a fairly cheap PVC unit. It has been really cold in winter and actually far worse in summer as the garden...

    Could this extension be re-roofed?

OK nice one, I'm meeting with a builder this week to discuss rough costs.

    Could this extension be re-roofed?

I was under the impression we could extend and renovate what we already had as opposed to completely demolishing it but in a nutshell, you're correct. Selling isn't an option until all of our kids have started school. We're inside the very small catchment area for the school my wife teaches at...

    Could this extension be re-roofed?

I have plans submitted (see attached) for a larger rear extension but I’m not sure I have the stomach, or funds, for a full demolish and rebuild which is what my architect has proposed. I'd also add that having lived here for 12 months, we've agreed that we'll likely move again in 5-10 years as...

Material Alteration of Existing Attic Bedroom

Thanks for the help guys. We've got an application in-flight due to extending downstairs anyway so could perhaps wrap up any submitted plans as part of that work.

Material Alteration of Existing Attic Bedroom

Post updated to clarify. Top floor bedroom, storage room and stairs all built in 1890. This year, we rebuilt a stud wall, insulated the room, added some Velux windows and installed 2x new doorways. This has converted one large room and the storage room into two rooms, both with direct access...

Material Alteration of Existing Attic Bedroom

Hi all, Looks like this happens all the time so forgive yet another building regs post. We have a three-storey terraced house. The house was built around 1890 and featured a bedroom in the attic and a complete staircase...none of this was added. In January of this year, we stripped the attic...

Adding New Room to Existing Room-in-Roof

My house, and all the houses on my street, were built before 1900 and included a room-in-roof, with stairs and a bay window. We've just recently ripped out the old lath and plaster (Jesus wept...what a mess that made), insulated and are finishing up the boarding. The room originally included a...

How To Tidy Up This Exposed Radiator Pipework

How To Tidy Up This Exposed Radiator Pipework

There is a small amount of space...basically the width of the skirt but I think your suggestion is probably my best option. Thanks!

How To Tidy Up This Exposed Radiator Pipework

This radiator (800mm wide) sits in my landing. With the radiator mounted onto the wall, the radiator valves would sit more or less directly above a joist. I've attempted to annotate the image to show the hot/cold feed and return pipes along with the notched joist. I'd like to: Put a new...
