    Water Stopcock Cover

I've searched the forum and the internet to no avail... I need to replace a broken cast iron water stopcock cover at the back of my house. I suspect it's the original from the early 1950s. It was originally hinged (the pins have long since disappeared so the cover is loose as well as snapped...

    GU10 Energy Saving Bulbs

Cheers lads - I guessed that might be the answer. Tried bending the tabs and managed to get the bulbs to fit - but only just. I'm assuming a snug fit is the best I can manage? I don't dare bend the tabs any further for fear of snapping them.

    GU10 Energy Saving Bulbs

I've bought two 11W low energy Megaman GU10 bulbs to replace a couple of 50W halogens that have blown in my kitchen. Although the lampholders aren't fixed, I can't get the bulbs past the springs which hold the outer fitting in place (i.e. the bit that clips to the underside of the ceiling)...

Green CH pipes - sign of what?

It's verdigree and it's a sign that the combination of water and air have been in prolonged contact with a copper pipe. Unfortunately, your pic doesn't show what the pipe leads to but I assume it's a TRV or lockshield. It's possible that water from a minor leak over a long period could have...

Any experience of the Aqualisa Quartz Electric 10.5KW?

Adam, I had one of these fitted 12 months ago after I lost my patience with a Triton T80. As electric showers go, it's the business (and I've used a fair few electric showers). But as many people on this forum will tell you, even the best electric shower can't compare with a decent power...

    Drilled through kitchen ring

Okay, safe zone or unsafe zone, the terminology is up to you. But I drilled in an area where there shouldn't have been any cable. It's neither directly above, below, left nor right of an electrical socket or installation. As for checking the fuse - I'm sorry to say I haven't. I'm cutting my...

    Drilled through kitchen ring

I don't have a multimeter but I can tell you that the there are three sets of 2.5mm twin and earth into each FCU. I know that some FCUs are labelled "Supply" and "Load". Mine are labelled "In" and "Out". There are two lives and two neutrals to the "In" and just one to the "Out".

    Drilled through kitchen ring

Jockspark, I'll try to describe it: The kitchen ring has five double sockets. There are also two fused spurs at worktop level (with LEDs), both of which serve sockets underneath the worktop. One is for the dishwasher, the other is for the washing machine. The sockets are about 3m away from...

    Drilled through kitchen ring

Cheers TTC and RF for your replies. I'm all too aware that just repairing and plastering over is a big no-no. A blank plate on the wall was my first thought but TTC's suggestion with the crimps and heat shrink sleeving sounds like a winner. However, I think I'll have someone in to sort it...

    Drilled through kitchen ring

Annoyingly, while putting up a shelf in my kitchen I have drilled through the cable in the ring for the kitchen sockets. Before you all start tutting and calling me a stupid boy, I drilled into what should be a safe zone. Clearly, it wasn't. The upshot is that that the kitchen ring still...

Connecting 15mm mains water feed to 22mm bath tap

It was steel, as is the replacement. However, I had the forethought to install a 165cm bath this time. It took ages but well worth the effort.

Connecting 15mm mains water feed to 22mm bath tap

cheers gigz and leakydave. In the end I used a 15mm flexi with a 3/4" tap connector. It worked a treat. I won't bore you with the trials and tribulations of my bathroom re-fit over the weekend, suffice it to say that getting a 170cm bath out of a 165cm gap involved lots of chiselling...

Connecting 15mm mains water feed to 22mm bath tap

cheers. Thought it would best to check rather than sit red-faced in my bathroom.

Connecting 15mm mains water feed to 22mm bath tap

Pretty self-explanatory subject title really. I'm refitting my bathroom this weekend. The cold feed will be from the mains which is on 15mm copper. Obviously the bath tap requires 22mm pipe. Is it okay to fit a reducing coupling on a 22mm tail from the bath tap to the 15mm mains? I've got...

    Refilling a Gravity Feed System

I reused the old olives when replacing a check valve last week as it was impossible to get the old olive off without knackering the pipe. You might want to wind some PTFE tape around the olive first, just as a precaution. The ultimate test is that if it doesn't leak, the seal is good enough.

    28mm cold water supply

Does anyone know of any good reason why the cold water supply from my CW tank in the loft to my bathroom is supplied by 28mm copper pipe? I was wondering if I can replace it with 22mm and then only have to fit a reducing tee for the sink. The CW tanks only feeds the bath and sink. I should...
