Think I’ve messed up the batten spacing

Yes I gathered that when they couldn't answer other questions. One of them thought the slates go sideways  (he was new!) If you want to rest the top of the slate on the same batten you nail the next slate in, then the range is only like 1-2cm or so. With 38mm battens. You cant have a...

How to know how much to overlap tiles (so covering the holes), so I can work out how many I need?

Too much overthinking? It saved me having wobbly slate :D. And no, with pre-holed tiles I could not increase the headlap because the slate holes will be above the slate underneath. I could decrease it, but I would have to add more battens.

How to know how much to overlap tiles (so covering the holes), so I can work out how many I need?

Hi All. As per my mistake on this other thread https://www.diynot.com/diy/threads/think-i’ve-messed-up-the-baton-spacing.590331/ it turns out the answer to my question is very simple, and so very perplexing why there is lack of this info online and not answered here, and even the roofing...

Think I’ve messed up the batten spacing

Never mind I have reduced the spacing and so top of all tiles will now sit on batten above. I feel so much better for it, and it only took an hour. I do have the old nail holes in the membrane... wondering if its a big issue because the slates should be keeping dry, if its not, then I haven't...

Think I’ve messed up the batten spacing

I’ve nailed all my batons down for a door canopy. I’ve been wondering what stops slates wobbling once they are nailed in almost half way down. It looks like the top of the slate is supposed to rest on the next baton up. I don’t know how I missed that when planning it. Mine won’t as the batons...

How to know how much to overlap tiles (so covering the holes), so I can work out how many I need?

Slate tiles. the link is very useful thanks. But looks like I’m after a value for the gauge + headlap, which is the overlap of the tile, so I can work out how many I’d need to buy. All the pictures online show holes approximately half way between 1/3 and 1/2 from top not 2/3rds? Like in your...

How to know how much to overlap tiles (so covering the holes), so I can work out how many I need?

I was looking online at various roofing sites and none of them had any information about headlap. For example, I was looking at these tiles https://www.roofingsuperstore.co.uk/product/passaro-ss55-mix-first-quality-spanish-natural-slate-in-grey-500mm-x-250mm.html no detail about headlap. It...

How to know how much to overlap tiles (so covering the holes), so I can work out how many I need?

I’m quite confused. I can’t find any info about this online… tiles have holes in to screw them to battens. When overlapping tiles the top tile cover those holes on the tile underneath. But all the tiles I looked at online don’t give the dimensions of hole distance from top. So how do I know...

Are gaps between ridge board and rafter normal, after shrinkage?

I always drill pilot holes but not large enough for screws to slide through so they’re still screwed through the pilot holes. I do think the screws are holding it out. Just curious if it’s ok. I assume if the rafter did slip down the screw back into position it’s fine. I don’t think the screws...

Are gaps between ridge board and rafter normal, after shrinkage?

I built a door canopy. Rafters sat flush on the ridge board when I built it. I screwed the rafters to the ridge board, only one screw. The bottom of the rafters have two larger screws to hold them in place. I’ve boarded the top now, ready for tiles. I noticed the rafters at the top have a gap...

Door canopy roof: do I need battens? Is plywood ok?

Oh yes I didn’t think about wind underneath. So ply, then membrane, then battens, then tiles. I was hoping to cut a step out, why are battens needed if I can nail to the ply? is it because tiles will hook onto the battens so better supported on sloping roof?

How to remove the CE mark on wood?

Just want to update this to say since posting, some of the marks have faded considerably. Maybe due to sun and or rain. So that’s good news.

Door canopy roof: do I need battens? Is plywood ok?

I’ve built that attached door canopy. Roof is next but I can’t find much info/help online for such such a roof so wondered if anyone here can help… I thought I’d just plywood or OSB it first then nail slate tiles to that. Would that be ok? or do I need battens to hang the tiles on? If I...

    Pebbledash repair advice

Hi. My 60s house is pebbledashed and we have painted it white. I have a patch on the wall where I removed a door canopy that does not have pebbledash that I want to fill in and paint to match the rest. but I can’t find any plasterer to do it. I have contacted lots of local companies that claim...

Anyone know about this canopy bracket. If it’s connected behind bricks or just straight in

I’ve cut them off with metal disc cutter then pushed them in. They went quite far back into the into wall cavity.

Anyone know about this canopy bracket. If it’s connected behind bricks or just straight in

Trying to remove these canopy brackets. From a 1960s house. You can see the bracket goes into the brick in the wall. I assume it was fixed into the wall during construction. same at bottom. It came out about half inch now won’t budge. It wobbles sideways so it should slide out. I’m worried...

Opinions on door canopy angle. Should it match the roof or not matter?

Just after some opinions because I can’t decide. See attached image of my roof angle. It’s about 120 degrees. I’m building an apex door canopy over front door which is centred directly below. I wonder if the door canopy angle should match the roof or if 90 degrees will look ok too. I think...

How to remove the CE mark on wood?

Ok thanks. It’s for a canopy over front door. I forgot about the mark and it’s in a front facing post so people see it. Not very good for front of house canopy. my timber merchant dont have this treated wood all planed already and I’m not a carpenter or have the tools to do it, so it’s not...

How to remove the CE mark on wood?

How do you remove the CE mark? Thought a light sand may work but no. If I have to do any more sanding it’ll take a mm or more off surely and I’d have to sand a hell of a lot of surface to match the small area where the CE mark was. Or will staining it hide it? I’m thinking it won’t.

Is the quality of my imprinted concrete “normal”?

Thanks woody, sounds like good advice. I asked it to be like the attached image (removed the persons house hence the cut out). It does have lighter shades, hard to tell if its the same kind. Theirs looks like its throughout and uniform, whereas mine I have a large patchy area, then an area with...
