Mould in shed. Too much ventilation maybe?

During winter it felt damp inside a little. The monitors had condensation on them. If something was wet inside I can’t think what. Although thinking about it could be from when the floor osb was wet during construction as it was in the rain for some time before I finished the roof and walls. I...

Mould in shed. Too much ventilation maybe?

Roof and floor is OSB floor osb sits on 3x2s that span across gravel, secured in place by those plastic mesh things. Some mould on the roof osb but can’t see any floor, although I have carpet cut offs on the floor. mould is on garden furniture cushions, but also office equipment like...

Mould in shed. Too much ventilation maybe?

I built a shed last October. Couple of months later the contents are getting mouldy and I can see mould spots on ceiling. everything I’ve read says ventilation is key. Keep it ventilated. Well I’ve got plenty. The roof beams sit on top of the wall frames. This means between the roof beams...

Fence post anchor bolt sheared in concrete help!

Update on what I did in case anyone else has same... Decided not to use post anchor because I too think in winds the bolts will eventually pull out. Chiselling old post out not possible as it’s too deep in the hole Crow bar on own to chisel and pry and shred was a nightmare Drilling with wood...

Fence post anchor bolt sheared in concrete help!

@oldbutnotdead its not near the edge it’s in the middle maybe 200mm either side. the other posts are all concreted in. I’ll see if I can remove the wood but I imagine it would be quite difficult to chisel out wood from a75mm x 75xx opening. Guess I’ll need a long chisel or similar tool and...

Fence post anchor bolt sheared in concrete help!

@Tigercubrider i don’t own the lower ground no. I don’t know if the retaining wall is mine or the neighbours! Perhaps mine if the fence is on top of it. But the brick is the other side of the fence so don’t actually know what’s mine. Best I don’t do anything the lower side of the bricks. I’ve...

Fence post anchor bolt sheared in concrete help!

Pics of the old post snapped, concrete retaining wall with couple rows bricks on top. Don’t have pic of holes I’ve drilled. I’m trying to drill a post anchor over the old post. So screws go into that big retaining concrete wall.

Fence post anchor bolt sheared in concrete help!

@JohnD the old post in concrete rotted abs snapped. So I sawed that off level to the concrete then screwing an anchor down for the new post. Screws sheared as I’m screwing. Plug is 10mm x 100mm. Screw was 6.8mm x 100mm for the plug. 10mm hole was drilled for the plug as per what the packet of...

Fence post anchor bolt sheared in concrete help!

Post snapped in storm other night. It was originally concreted into a thick concrete retaining wall. I think my only option is use post anchors bolted into concrete. got some Dial 6.8mm x 100mm coach screw and nylon plugs that require 10mm drill. So drilled 10mm down to 100mm. Hammered plugs...

Best/Easiest way to build horizontal fence with no gaps

As I’m doing it myself and to satisfy neighbours (getting rid of my leylandii hedge to stop their complaints!) then I’d like regular treated timber from my local merchant to keep costs down. I’m thinking worse case just use 1x4 and trim behind any gaps. Would nailing down t&g cladding stop...

Using tongue and groove cladding to trim shed?

Thanks all. I went ahead and looks good. If it doesn’t work out it’s easy to replace. As suggested, the roof trims have tongue up so as not to collect water. the corner trims have the groove edges butted together as I thought that would be a thicker seal to stop water getting in compared to...

Made mistake on canopy, how best to fix

For the sake of closure... I didn’t use joist hangers and put the beams directly on top of the ledger then planed the top of the post down a bit so the end beam sat nicely to the ledger. So all ok.

Best/Easiest way to build horizontal fence with no gaps

I prefer horizontal fences to vertical. I need to build one soon but I don’t want any gaps. I also dont want a hit and miss fence. Tongue and groove would be ideal but I read it will be a bad idea and warp over time. Even though you can buy tongue and groove panels? And that sheds can have t&g...

Using tongue and groove cladding to trim shed?

Any reason I shouldn’t use the T&g cladding for shed trims? Specifically corners and roof edge. I have excess cladding. 22x100mm timber seems a bit too thick and wide but there’s none thinner in my local timber yards and I need over 3m which I can’t get in my car and adds a lot of cost for...

Questions about building a shed, to do with wood, types of screws and membrane

No I am not, and I cant stand stainless steel screws. Not only more expensive but they're really soft, the heads just wear right down. would bright zinc screws cost less and be stronger?

Questions about building a shed, to do with wood, types of screws and membrane

But its screws into copper treated wood, and I read its the wood treatment that would corrode the screws, so bright zinc plated are OK? Online only says stainless steel or hot dipped galvanised. Thanks

Questions about building a shed, to do with wood, types of screws and membrane

Thanks JobAndKnock for your answers. gutted I bought a “nailer” although it was only £30 and £8 useless Brad nails. Handy to attach the membrane. Sometimes I use it to hold the cladding so I can add a few of them before nailing. I will have to pull the membrane out from the inside and replace...

Questions about building a shed, to do with wood, types of screws and membrane

Hi. I’m building my own shed but the experience has left me with some questions I wondered if anyone can help with... 1) I used treated timber for the whole frame, thinking if there was a leak or just because it’s outside in winter it would withstand it all better. Is that common or normal to...
