    Removing a radiator

Guys, I'm looking for some advice on removing a radiator please. The radiator in question is on the ground floor of the house and is fixed to a stud partition wall. I'm okay with disconnecting it - shutting down the valves at both ends and actually taking the radiator off the wall...

    Heated towel rail spur

Hi all, I'm fitting an heated towel rail in bathroom. In truth, it's already on the wall, it's just not wired up yet. The heating element is rated a 400W. I was going to take a spur from a normal ring mains double socket to power this heating element and just wanted to check what gauge...

    Glass Block Wall

When you say set them into the floor, how deep should they go? The conservatory floor presumably has a dampcourse somewhere down there? Thanks.

Trunking size for ring main spur

Yeah, I'm pretty happy to do that. But that does raise another question (in my head). How far apart should the two bits of trunking be? Obviously as far as possible is a logical answer. But I have a curious mind so if anyone knows a more scientific one I'd appreciate it. The reason...

Trunking size for ring main spur

An alternative approach I'm considering is to drop the cable down the partition in the stud wall (behind the plasterboard). To give you some background... The spur socket is going in an airing cupboard. The door to the airing cupboard is on the landing - so it's not in a bathroom. I have...

Trunking size for ring main spur

So it sounds like heat is not the issue but the current flowing through the mains cable may interfere with the picture signal in the coax and worse (from an annoying point of view) the signal in my alarm cable. I may yet re-route the other cables then and just put the 2.5mm spur cable in the...

Trunking size for ring main spur

Hi, I'm putting a spur in to my upstairs ring main. There's already some trunking on the wall which would be perfect for the spur cable. My concern is whether or not the trunking is suitable for the cable? The trunking is 25mm wide and 15mm deep. It already has 1 length of coax in...

    Glass Block Wall

That has crossed my mind. I just wondered if I could get away without the additional expense. If did choose that option would the dry fix kit do the job and would I still need an 'L' shape at the freestanding end or would it be sturdy enough?

    Glass Block Wall

I'd like to build a glass block wall in my conservatory to try and divide the room into 2 distinct areas. Ideally I want the wall to be about waist height - so 6 or 7 blocks. My problem is securing the wall. The conservatory is the width of the house and I'd like to split it width ways...

    Bathroom Extractor Fan Wiring

I guess my original question was is it ok to have 5 cables coming out of a 4 terminal 20A junction box, and according to sparkyspike it is! Unless I hear differently by tonight I'm going for it! Wish me luck or listen for the bang! :) Thanks for the replies, much appreciated.

    Bathroom Extractor Fan Wiring

Sparkspike... Forgot to say, the fan doesn't need an earth (or have anywhere to connect one). Neither does the switch have anywhere to connect one and obviously the plastic patress I'm fitting the switch to doesn't have an earth point either. So no, none of this is going to be earthed.

    Bathroom Extractor Fan Wiring

ban-all-sheds... I know it's not a neutral - sorry for the confusion. I was trying to explain it based on the colour of the cable. It would normally be used for a neutral but in this case it is the switched live and I've wrapped some red tape around it so people know. Also, yes the...

    Bathroom Extractor Fan Wiring

Currently, in my loft, I have a junction box with 4 twin and earth cables connected in it. Cable 1 brings the power from the fuse box. Cable 2 passes the power onto the next light in the circuit. Cable 3 goes to the pull switch in my bathroom. Cable 4 goes to the light fitting in my...

    Tile trim: t-bar

Hi, I'm looking for tile trim with a 't' profile. I've seen you can get straight edge trim for when your tiling stops part way along a wall but I can't find a t bar. I'm planning to tile onto a (small) sheet of 9mm plywood. If I could find one, a t-bar tile trim would not only cover...

    Leaking conservatory roof

Hi, My conservatory roof is leaking and I'm looking for some advice on fixing it. I acquired the conservatory when I bought the house, so I have no idea who installed it or how old it is. It doesn't look like a particularly expensive one, I'd guess it was a DIY kit to be honest. It's full...

    Re-locating Air Bricks

Just wanted to bring this discussion to a close and put it on record (in case anyone else was thinking of doing what I wanted to do). Having smashed the middle of the plastic airbrick and pulled all the pieces out what I found behind was not at all what I was expecting. I was hoping to...

Where do i buy rolls of scrim ?

Are you sure you want scrim tape? (I'm no expert - just didn't think that was what it was used for). If it is what you're looking for you should be able to get it pretty much anywhere... http://www.wickes.co.uk/Plaster-Tapes-Accs+Adhesives/Cotton-Scrim/invt/220575

    Re-locating Air Bricks

I'm still a little unsure about this and so I'm thinking of taking some digi photos this weekend so you guys can see exactly what I'm talking about. However, applying some more logical thought to my scenario, the airbricks in the outer wall are plastic and as such have an outer sleeve and an...

    Re-locating Air Bricks

So I lifted a corner of the carpet in my lounge and as I suspected the floor is concrete. With that in mind, does anyone have any opinion on what these airbricks are for? are they there simply to ventilate the cavity in the wall? Thanks. C.

    Re-locating Air Bricks

I'll have to check but I thought the ground floor of my house was concrete? I'll check this tonight but isn't that usually the way for a house of modern construction? Anyway, I'll check tonight, but if it is concrete then there's no harm in moving them right? Thanks, C.
