Hi all, We are looking to have some walls knocked down in our home to create more space and are likely to need a few steel supports as these walls are likely load bearing. We have a structural engineer who has advised on what may need to be done, but wants to come out and check the load path...

House Project - redesign of layout

Well we are in and first job was to get a roofer in to repair a leak in the downstairs room, as the roof slopes down to first floor, found a massive hole in the roof felt and water was gushing in the corner ceiling. We had originally thought there may have been subsidence (as there are hairline...

Having just bought a new property that has, essentially, 3 bathrooms (upstairs bathroom, ensuite and downstairs bathroom) I was wondering what to do with the upstairs bathroom which is a decent size (7'10 x 12'5) though the exterior wall slopes (dormer bungalow converted upstairs) which has a...

Advice on various house improvement projects

Hi, I've not got any pictures of the "potential underpinning" issue. It's all in the right side of the house as you face it and it's all mortar cracking, none of the bricks are cracked It looks like it was re-pointed at one time and has cracked again. Probably about 1.5 meters wide by 2 meters...

Electrical Socket Frames - where to get?

Hi all, Not strictly an electrical question, but I have seen wall sockets with frames around them, I am interested in getting some of these as we have tiled our kitchen and there are slight gaps where the tile cutting has not as tight to the plug as we'd have liked, a frame over it would...
