When you say following existing brick gauge on main house do you mean by that having the same number of courses of brick on both Main house and extension? Thanks
So I’ve taken this photo this eve, obviously it’s dark and maybe not much to look at, just got home, but will this mortar lighten up at all. Just done a few hours ago. Also mortar bed thicker than I thought?
It will take a while though? Years?
I like the look of the mortar in that photo, just wondering if its "natural" or theres something different about it
Hi
Having a rear extension built with these bricks, does the mortar look the standard colour to you in the photo? I know the photo might be showing it a different light...
Will the normal mortar that is used here in London look like this (see attached photo)
Cheers
DC
Cheers for this.
Apparently the building inspector said has to be engineering bricks when on site today. Seems to be the type who just wants to cover himself rather than giving advice though. Im sure not all building inspectors are like that!
Hi we are building a rear and side ground floor extension. The builder (my dad) has suggested we need a plinth made of blocks around the base of the walls which would then be rendered, as the wife doesn't want any engineering bricks visible as they would be red or blue only as I understand...
The application does show the outline of the previously approved elements. It also shows the proposed elevations showing a two storey side extension. It's just that the description says "Proposed first floor side extension" not "two storey". I didn't produce the plans btw or the description...
I know what you're saying.......however the fellow who had the house before it was very elderly I wonder if he was advised to do this unnecessarily.... I would still like to have a go at it, but if anyone has any experience with stuff would be v helpful
