    Plug tester reading

That's what I was hoping to avoid. I was hopingb someone might say there was a common thing that caused this and took two minutes to resolve. Looks like I'll be spending 4 hours tomorrow looking behing every socket front. Unless someone knows different..................

    Plug tester reading

Guys I tried something that someone suggested. I switched off the MCB and disconnected the first and last sockets on the ring and used a multitester to test for continuity of the circuit on all three cable strands L/N/E. All three bleeped on the multimeter to indicate a complete circuit...

    Plug tester reading

Hi Guys I ahev just changed 20 socket fronts for new ones and gone round with a plug tester. Every socket is reading Earth Live cross. I surely can;t have made the stupid mistake of crossing an earth and live connection. The sockets are not working and the MCB hasn't tripped. Any ideas or...

    cable to outside shed

Adam Using the separate core was a way to avoid having to tale the SWA all the way to the supply as it was impractical. I wanted to make sure all of my options were covered for earthing to be safe. Sorry can't at the moment but needless to say there are lots of earthing options and they...

    cable to outside shed

Thanks Adam I wanted to ensure that there was an isolation point in the shed as well as at source. It also gives a convenient point for branching off to the two points for sockets and light. The shed is actually a brick outhouse. Inside the house the SWA terminates through a metal gland...

    cable to outside shed

Hi guys I have planned a power system to the brick shed about 4 metres from a house. Can you tell me if it's right? 2.5mm SWA from the house to the shed terminating in the shed in the form of a metalised 13A fused switch. The fused switch then feeds 2 sockets in a radial circuit. In...

    Main switch tripping

Thanks guys Why would the m ain incomer be an RCD? Surely that means that the main board would trip out every time theer was a fault rather than individual circuits? And that is a pain! I will sort out a photo at the weekend as I'm about to head off for a few days on business. thanks...

    Main switch tripping

Thanks for the reply RF. The CU is quite old and does not have an RCD. The switch that is tripping is the main incomer. This is why I am concerned about the fact that the main switch is tripping. Nothing else in the house seems to cause it to trip. Your suggestion that something more...

    Main switch tripping

Hi Guys I have a problem that I can't figure out. The main incoming switch has tripped a number of times over the past 12 months and we have narrowed it down to when my wife is ironing. We have swapped the iron and so it has happened with two different irons. It has also happened when she...

The normal cooker configuration would be a 30A fuse 6mm cable and a 45A cooker switch. Is this what should be used for this?

    Washing machine waste - converter?

Thanks for that suggestion but it's not a 'tit bit' like I have seen in the past. It is what looks like an opening of approx 25mm with a thread on the outer. There is a screw fitting that fits over the outer and at the moment a stopper cap blocking the opening secured by the screw fitting.
