    Old cast iron gutters leaking

I’m going to be repainting the old gutters on a big block of flats. I own one so do a fair bit of maintenance on it. The gutters leak at the joins and I wondered what is the best solution to fix them without dismantling. Could I use a silicone? A roofer said he uses stixall to seal a lot...

    Emissions fail on MOT

Ive checked the oil this morning and i have a bit of black over the top of the dipstick, but there is clearly a black band around the lower half and it finished exactly on half way. So i am assuming this dipstick is showing it is correctly filled. Again I dont do this that often. I have...

    Emissions fail on MOT

Ok, so not the EGR These are the opacity reads and where it failed. Needs to be below 0.7 4.6 1.98 1.75 1.71 3.37 3.24 Today they retested but pulled it as it failed and they didnt want me to pay for a new test: 1.34 1.35 1.39 So you can see things have improved, but not enough. I wonder...

    Emissions fail on MOT

My 2015 citroen berlingo van has just failed the emissions test on the MOT. It needs to be below 0.7, but was at 4.6. I have just been in for a retest and the reading has come down, but is still over, so they abandoned the test so i can do it again. Now it is 1.34 So i added redox a few days...

Hot water immersion left on 24h's

No I can’t heat with gas or off peak electric. Kw price after April time is going to be about 50p kw. Currently I pay 34kw. Old fixed rates of 15p are long gone for many. I think having read various experiences on the net I need to heat for 2h in the morning and do a one hour top up in the...

Hot water immersion left on 24h's

Does anyone know if leaving on an unvented hot water immersion 24h's a day is poor economically compared to using a timer ? I have a new gledhill 150L cylinder and we were thinking it would be fine to just leave it on all the time. The reason being is that the cylinder will self regulate and...

Adapter for my rad valve to take powerflush

It looks like it has been successful !!! The boiler is working and not cutting off and the rads upstairs have got to a good temp. Prob need a little balancing. I've left them to mess with the balancing for the next few days and i will go back to add the inhibitor.

Adapter for my rad valve to take powerflush

Visseman vitodens 100w wb1b Engineer said boiler is ok initially. Most likely a pipe blockage. I flushed the rads manually 2 weeks ago and no better So tried the pump, now doing a powerflush to see if that can do something.

Adapter for my rad valve to take powerflush

Well I am sitting here reading the help and have done each rad (6) individually for 20 mins. I have flushed out the old water and am running it round the system for 2h roughly. The guy in the shop said to leave the hoses attached to my rad connections and turn on the filling loop to flush the...

Adapter for my rad valve to take powerflush

Thanks OB Its a sealed combi system If i remove the valves from this rads pipe work could i just use speedfit connectors or elbows to connect the pipes up ? I will have to drain down as i cant chance bunging it. Do i fully pressurise the system again before i start flushing. OR is it better...

Adapter for my rad valve to take powerflush

I've been told by the hire place to connect to the rad valves on one rad. So doing it on the kitchen rad by the back door and will have the machine outside. Not bothered about the thermo valve at this point as i can replace it if it gets knackered. What i need to do is get this bloody...

Adapter for my rad valve to take powerflush

I need a compression fitting so I can plug in the hoses for the power flush machine I’ve hired. Just not sure what part I need. The other side will connect onto the 15mm thermostat valve, but the drain off valve has a much bigger nut Photos to help

    Leaking drain gully

All good on the camera survey. I watched it all and the rest bend has not rocked upwards and is in good condition. It is cast iron down to around the rest bend. So this is not causing any issues. Got the new plastic set up finished and it went very well, even though heavy snow was on the...
