    240v from Sink

Yes, we have replaced the bathroom suite an decorated anither room recently. I have checked for continuity of the ring circuit at the consumer unit and there is no continuity on either the live or neutral so I guess there is a damaged cable somewhere.

    240v from Sink

The 240v goes away when I isolate that side of the kitchen so I will leave that switched off for now. We have had a lot of decorating done but no new wiring.

    240v from Sink

Hi, I have had a 3 quite heavy shocks when touching my sink tap. One when touching the tap and dishwasher, the other when touching the tap and kettle. It does not trip the RCBO. I have connected a multimeter to the tap and it maintained 240v. It also reads 240v when connected to the tap and...

Humidity and Odour Extraction from Bathroom

Thanks for the rapid responses, I will use a timer switch outside of the bathroom. I had a search on-line to see if there is a pull switch version but could not see one, hence I think the second option from TLC will look nice. I like the sound of the appropriately named Raspberry Pi, but it...

Humidity and Odour Extraction from Bathroom

I currently have a an in line duct fan controlled by a humidistat in my bathroom and it works well, extracting the air when I have a shower. Unfortunately the humidistat cannot tell when there is an unpleasant odour in there and I have been looking for another way to switch the fan on for 5...

    5" joists

Thanks Tony. I will make sure that I spread the load as well as I can. I will investigate wether I can run a steel across the wall between the bath feet so it can help take the shear force.

    Water mark

I had a similar problem in an old house which had a new chemical damp proof course but not been replastered. The old damp had caused the salts to appear in the plaster and they attracted the moisture in the air. I was told to scrub them with a vinegar solution which sounded as though he was...

    5" joists

Hi, I live in a Dormer bungalow built in 1939 and it has 5" joists supporting the upstairs floor. The bath is currently over an area where the joists span between two walls just 1metre apart and I want to move it to an area where the joists span 4.3m The area in question has been part of the...

    Bathroom Light Switch

Thank you for all of the replies. It is interesting to see that the regs don't prohibit the use of wall switches in the bathroom just not where you could reach them from the bath /shower. Since in my case you could just about reach it from the shower(or definately reach it with one foot in the...

    Bathroom Light Switch

Hi, We are planning on refurbishing our bathroom and one of the firms we spoke to suggested we could have light switches on the wall inside the bathroom which does not sound right. Does anybody know if there is a safe way to do this using remote control or Low voltage circuits. (or some other...

    Manrose 1361 Remote Humidistat

The lowest setting on the Humidistats is 40% and below that is the always on position. If I switch to the always on then they work but anything above that (even less than 40) then they do not power up the fan. The kettle seemed to work when I held it under the stat and then adjusted the RH...

    Manrose 1361 Remote Humidistat

Thanks for the replies. I had the settings turned down to just above the always on position (pointing at 40% and they did not work) I have just adjusted them both to 70% and they work if I hold the kettle under them but not if I have the shower on steamy hot. I will keep fiddling and...

    Manrose 1361 Remote Humidistat

Thanks, I have had the shower running so that the condensation runs down the tiles. I have also tried the kettle trick until my arm ached but no luck. I am wondering if I have wired them incorrectly, but it look really quite simple.

    Manrose 1361 Remote Humidistat

Hi, I have just fitted two new humidistats in the bathrooms at home and neither of them appear to work properly. If I adjust them to be permanently on then they start the fan, but I cannot get them to work as a humidistat (ie if I have them set to 40% humidity they never fire up the fan)...

Changing diverter valve on Ariston Microgenus 28

Hi, I am part way through changing the diverter valve on my boiler and have come up against a problem. I have removed the majority of connections and nuts but there is a small copper pipe than runs in to the valve from the back and I cannot see how it is secured. The pipe appears to be...

Ariston micro genus 28. No hot water when heating is on.

Thanks for the advice. One more question...... Could it be the actuator or is that just wishful thinking?

Ariston micro genus 28. No hot water when heating is on.

I can understand the diverter valve and the radiators heating up. Would this also explain the cool water?

Ariston micro genus 28. No hot water when heating is on.

Hi, The hot water on my ariston boiler is not very hot when the central heating is on. It is only marginally warmer than the cold water when the CH is running but fine when it is not. I might have another problem as I noticed the radiators get warm when the central heating is off...
