Depression in floorboards - 10mm across 1.8m span - leveling for laminate floor?

I am really reluctant to lift the floorboards more. The area to be 'filled' is 1.2-1.4m wide but to get under to shim or sister I would have to be lifting 3-4m long intact boards. They are old, will likely split, all the T&G will break. At least with wood strip, I can lay it down it sections...

Depression in floorboards - 10mm across 1.8m span - leveling for laminate floor?

@JobAndKnock what if I ever need to get under the floor, repair wiring or heating pipes? That approach would be a nightmare for it. I think Im going to have to try the furring strip approach. Pulling up floorboards to shim the joists will likely result in breakage. If I lay down the strip I can...

Depression in floorboards - 10mm across 1.8m span - leveling for laminate floor?

In order to shim the existing joists under the floorboards, or sister the joists completely, I would need to lift alot more full length floorboards. They are mostly nailed down with the tongue& groove still intact, except for in some places where wiring or central heating pipes have been put...

Depression in floorboards - 10mm across 1.8m span - leveling for laminate floor?

Hi all, Upstairs bedroom, wooden floorboards. Due to the way the floor beams have been constructed near to the chimney breast, a section of the floor is dipped by a max of 15mm in one area, but typically more like 5-10mm, over a span of around 1.8m. I have had the floorboards up in a couple...

What are these hinges and where can I get them from?

Hi all. My girlfriend's Dad asked if I can find these hinges. He is Polish and makes cabinets but can't get them in Poland he says. Any ideas? Thanks.

What fixings to screw 6x2 beam to brick wall?

Overall about 3-4m wide x 3m long. But its awkward - my house has a few internal solid brick walls that I am planning to take advantage of. So on one end there will be a ledger beam screwed onto the party wall, then the joists will run perpendicular with the other end of them sat on top of an...

What fixings to screw 6x2 beam to brick wall?

Hi I'm going to be screwing a 6x2 beam flat to a wall to support some further joists running perpendicular. What fixings should I use to screw this into a solid brick wall please?

    Rules for boiler in cupboard

There are about four airbricks in the kitchen, I don't think we need that many, and its making the house colder. There is currently a gas oven, so I won't do it until we do the kitchen refurb and swap that for an electric oven. As its an older house with solid walls we get quite a bit of...

    Rules for boiler in cupboard

Oh sorry, I just was asking whether what Im planning to do is ok. And also being unclear on why a warning sticker was attached in the first place.

    Rules for boiler in cupboard

When I moved into this house there was a sticker on the boiler, placed there at some point in the past by British Gas, that said the install was non-compliant because the boiler was in a cupboard with no ventilation. However there is a whopping airbrick at the back rear of this cupboard...

Where can I get these lockshield valve caps from?

Yeah the link works but then try to add to basket it errors. I'll email them. I emailed another company that had the pegler valves and they came back to say that was old picture and no longer stocked.

Where can I get these lockshield valve caps from?

Hi all, Looking for replacement caps for lockshield valves in my house. The existing ones are labelled BS2767-10 Brand Centre and have a square fitting with a securing screw, and on the valve itself seems to be some sort of plastic sleeve which I can't get off (at least, didn't want to try too...

Range rating, modulation and manually setting the CH temperature question.

Interesting read. I too am wondering how range rating would be influenced by, or influence, the heating flow temperature dial. Is it possible a boiler that is range rated too low could not reach the higher heating flow temperatures on the dial in very cold conditions? Also how would one tell...

    Expansion vessel failure

Just an update the pressure on running now seems to be very stable, only rising by 0.2-0.3 bar from cold to hot. I haven't run the system in anger yet though its not been cold enough, boiler temperature only set to setting 2 on the dial, so I imagine if the water is hotter I'll get more of a...

    Expansion vessel failure

Ok system running and up to temp on boiler setting 2. Pressure very stable, climbed to just over 1 bar. Will switch off now and let it settle before checking if any radiators need bleeding. I've also tied a bag over the prv outlet to check for any drips.
