Totally blocked rainwater drain (beyond repair)

Hey Cheers Hugh, That is also an option which is probably a bit more likely to last a few years than hosepipe. I'll have a think. DIY is not so much a problem... only a lack of time to do it (currently studying masters part time on top of regular time drainers, which chews up about 3h a...

Totally blocked rainwater drain (beyond repair)

Hey thanks for the replies all! I had also considered running a fallpipe to a discharge point. Just didn't want people tripping over it. I'll get out there at the weekend and consider my options a bit more. Robotmannick - thanks for the info. I feel the same - it's just a question of...

Totally blocked rainwater drain (beyond repair)

Yeah - thought the same about the garden hose. I believe that the drain originally fed into the sewer, but it's not nearby. The blocked gulley/drain is at the back of the house and the nearest sewer is round the side. Unfortunately there are 2 downpipes that feed into the rainwater drain. I...

Totally blocked rainwater drain (beyond repair)

Hi Folks, Just moved into a new (old) house 6 wks ago. Survey pulled up a few issues but gradually finding more and more. It was built in (roughly) 1930s. The most recent is that the rainwater downpipe at the back of the house discharges into a drain which is totally blocked with roots and...

Buying a new place: crack in suspended concrete slab

I am in the process of getting a pro to have a look. Assuming there is a problem does anybody know how this kind of thing would be remedied? Ta

Buying a new place: crack in suspended concrete slab

Hi, In the process of buying a new place. Had a full structural survey done, but there was no access to the garage at that time. Been to the house again this morning and managed to get access to the garage. The garage is underneath a bedroom and the ceiling is a poured concrete slab. I...

    Noise from plastic couplings

Thanks for the responses folks. Kinda what I thought. Anyways, I'll try supporting the pipes a bit better - hopefully it should reduce the noise a bit. It was never a problem until our daughter came along. Since she sleeps in the room next to the bathroom the clunking of the pipes wakes...

    Noise from plastic couplings

Hi all, Been a while since I've been on here. Anyway, back now because I'm stumped. A while ago I paid what I thought was a plumber (now I know he was a cowboy) to install a shower valve in a stud wall for me. He used plastic pipe to run it into the partition which he connected directly...

    Boxing in pipework

Hi random, I had to do this just the other day. I used 9mm ply screwed to 4x2cm batons fixed to the wall. I used BAL grip adhesive and worked out well. Make sure you follow the instructions on the adhesive - some require priming beforehand, some don't. I considered using PB, but it...

Quick one: most likely size for cistern inlet connector

Would it be better to replace the isolater and use a standard flexi hose. What's the chance of being able to use the existing olive and nut on the pipe without leaks?

Quick one: most likely size for cistern inlet connector

Thanks for the tip Actually there's one there already, but it has had a fair bit of use and doesn't shut properly any more. Was considering taking it off and using a flexi-hose with built in isolator.

Quick one: most likely size for cistern inlet connector

Lovely. Nice & Quick. Thanks a lot - I would have gone for 3/4 by looking at my ruler, so you saved me an extra trip! Cheers!

Quick one: most likely size for cistern inlet connector

Hi, Planning on fitting a new toilet this weekend. Want to pick up the bits from Screwfix on the way home. However... like a donut I forgot to measure the size of the threaded cistern inlet connection. Are these a standard size? If so, what's it likely to be? I think 1/2" or 3/4", which...

    Just sealed bath, now creaky

swidders, Actually there weren't any brackets supplied with the bath. In fact there was no mention in the instructions about fixing it to the wall. In fact the bath was originally fitted without a batten. However, this created a problem since the acrylic is quite flexible - the water...

    Just sealed bath, now creaky

Lance, Thanks for the advice. Will see what I can do. Already had to re-do the sealing because the muppets I paid to install the bath in the first place didn't batten along the wall and the water was all collecting in the corners. Anyway, I have to say, next time I would get a steel bath -...
