Hi all,

Been a while since I've been on here. Anyway, back now because I'm stumped.

A while ago I paid what I thought was a plumber (now I know he was a cowboy) to install a shower valve in a stud wall for me.

He used plastic pipe to run it into the partition which he connected directly to the existing copper stuff, but it's not supported and just hangs there.

We had a leak last week where the nut on one of the plastic connectors inside the stud wall had vibrated loose and started dribbling. The leak is now fixed and since I have access to all the pipework this has raised my main question....

Ever since he fitted the plastic pipe we've had water hammer from where the plastic pipes move about and rub against the wall, bath and etc. I have investigated this somewhat and even when the pipes are supported (by handholding) the noise seems to be coming from the actual connectors (right angle joints) and it's almost as though you can feel the joints expanding and contracting when the water is on/off.

Anybody had this problem before? Do these connectors make a noise?

Thanks,
Ben

Any decent engineer would have used copper, i'm sorry to hear you have been duped.

Sorry you have to read " Hello Kev" posts in amongst your answers - but he is a good ole boy  Anyway sounds like you have excessive mains water pressure as well as a lashed in plastic pipework - I`ve seen the joints " move " under high pressure

Thanks for the responses folks. Kinda what I thought.

Anyways, I'll try supporting the pipes a bit better - hopefully it should reduce the noise a bit.

It was never a problem until our daughter came along. Since she sleeps in the room next to the bathroom the clunking of the pipes wakes her up sometimes!
