Live twin and earth in strange location? - 2005 house build

There is a light in the loft but I installed the lighting circuit myself so I know its not related. Then theres the downlights and extractor as mentioned. I'll check into anything to do with the aerial, hadn't thought of that. There is one up there, but we don't use it so unsure if its...

Live twin and earth in strange location? - 2005 house build

Hello all, Hoping for some insight onto why this particular cable run might be as it is in our house. It's a 2005 build and pretty poor quality mostly. I'm removing some plasterboard and when I knocked an inspection hole through I found a live twin and earth behind, tacked onto the blockwork...

    Sander and sanding advise

I also like the Mirka products despite being a user of the festool ets and rotex. It was a close call between the two brands. However, I still use Mirka abrasives as they simply don't clog, virtually everything goes into the shop vac. I would still advise the use of a P3 respirator though...

Starting from nothing, what is your priority list for saws?

A quality track saw will a huge variety of jobs if coupled with something like the Festool MFT bench and accessories such as rails, bench dogs, clamps and angle guides. The Festool benches are expensive, but it's very possible to make your own if you're able to measure accurately. They sell...

Angle grinder safety - tile cutting?

My mask works the same as it did on day one, they just naturally have some resistance to them compared to a paper mask, or at least mine does and so does my wifes. I've had my P3 for years and regularly change the filters and I always keep a couple of spares. I'd never consider working with...

    £500 for drill set

All my stuff is fluro green Ryobi. I have a 4ah battery pack and a 1.5ah. I just have a hammer drill/driver and an impact driver, no SDS. I've found it to be very durable in DIY use, including being dropped and the battery packs hold charge well. Combined with several half decent drill bit...

Angle grinder safety - tile cutting?

It's a GVS Eclipse P3 and was a little restrictive from brand new. I've replaced the filters a couple of times. Is that not normal for a P3? I got it for woodworking originally.

Angle grinder safety - tile cutting?

Another thing I forgot, I have a P3 cartridge respirator. Wearing it feels like I'm in the death zone of everest, but its effective. and hello, glad to see you're still active here. I had a PM from you that I'd acidentally left unread, from I think 2017, wishing me happy christmas haha. I...

Angle grinder safety - tile cutting?

I spray it with an atomiser bottle, but to be honest, that was just to keep the dust down. I tried one of the low end table saws, Vitrax was it? It was rubbish, hence the angle grinder.

Angle grinder safety - tile cutting?

I've been that way ever since our woodworking teacher at school demonstrated kickback on a table saw by smashing a window in the classroom (intentionally), some 30 odd years ago. He was a good egg. That was back when kids were allowed to use things like bandsaws! I own quite a bit of...

Angle grinder safety - tile cutting?

I'm confident, just not particularly experienced. I tend to be over cautious perhaps, but some tools demand it.

Angle grinder safety - tile cutting?

Ahh, forgot about that. I made a small table from MDF which is then attached to a block which is clamped into one of those large freestanding vices. I then use irwin clamps to hold the tile to the MDF. It's pretty solid. Does it sound reasonable?

Angle grinder safety - tile cutting?

Hello, If nobody minds, I'd like some advice from those in the know about safety when using an angle grinder. I have a 115mm unit. When using it, I wear a leather apron (woodworking type), face shield, hearing protection and grippy work gloves. I typically use it to cut travertine or...

2005 build - poor wet area tiling quality example

Thanks bobasd. I am planning to use aquapanel and yes, skipping the fixtures. Nothing has been disconnected yet whilst I wait for deliveries. I wasn't sure what I'd find behind the plasterwork so I've had to order end caps as needed. Also awaiting more rubble sacks. Everything is...

2005 build - poor wet area tiling quality example

I cant imagine a genuine tradesman would produce something like this. On the plus side, it's good experience for me and saved a ton of graft getting those tiles off...

2005 build - poor wet area tiling quality example

Hello everyone, This is just a general interest post. Redoing the ensuite and when I started to take off the tiles, I found they barely had any adhesive at all, to the point where I could pull them off by hand if I'd wanted to. How they have remained fixed at all is beyond me. There was no...

    Building regs compliance in bathroom

Hi everyone, I'm refitting an ensuite at home and just wanted to ask for some advice if thats OK. We have two electrical fittings in the bathroom. A shaver socket and a down light. The down light is of the enclosed type and is directly above the shower enclosure. The shaver socket is some...
