I have just redone the insulation in my loft which previous to this work was less than 75mm. HOwever after installing it all I came across a document that said about reflective foil buildingpaper and brown paper. It said that I should put paper under my loft insulation to stop moisture. Is...

    loft floor

I was informed that if you squash 200mm insulation down ie to fit in with 3x2 joists you will lose some of its insulation properties and put undue stress on the plasterboard ceiling below or so I was told,

    loft floor

Can I just ask, people talk of simply adding timber on top of joists. I have 3x2 joists in my loft and need to raise one half to cope with 200mm insulation before I board. My concern is if I simply add timber to raise the boards I will add too much weight to the original joists. Anyone got...

    Gaps between wallpaper

I have recently put up some lining paper and painted it but found that some of the joints despite my best efforts are still quite noticeable and wondered if anyone had an easy tip to get rid of them, I thought about filler and trying to skimover the joins but not sure oif this is best or not.

Had a new radiator fitted a few months ago in our bathroom. the copper piping going into one end of the radiator keeps aving green goo build up on it after a few days, the other side is fine. It is simply a copper pipe going into I presume a steel fitting then attching to the rad. Can...

    ChipBoard + Loft Insulation

Are your original joists capable of holding the extra 4 x2 you've put in? I want to raise mine so I can fit 200mm insulation and the only way I can do this is by adding either 4x2 or 5x2 on my current joists and I am not convinced t will take the weight.

    Loft joists

My concern is because my existing joists are only 3 x2 at the very most I am a bit nervy about putting 4x2 on the top because of the extra weight but I have no idea how else I can arrange it so I can have 200m of insulation. My only choice seems to be have 100mm under the boarded part whichI...
