    cutting floor tiles

an angle grinder is going to have more long term usage isn't it? What sort of wattage would you go for at a minimum? Only thing I'm worried about is kick back but I have all the safety gear already for other tools... ...suppose I could get an anti kick back one (e.g. Bosch). Also, do you...

    cutting floor tiles

I need to make some odd cuts in some of my tiles (not just straight cuts for which I already have a basic cutter) to allow for radiator pipes, weird angles round by door frames, kitchen unit legs, etc. Can I use a jigsaw with adapted blade for this? If so, do I need a diamond blade or will a...

    small gap in between plywood

The floorboards run left to right. The plywood boards run top to bottom. So, essentially criss crossed. Won't that spread the load enough?

    small gap in between plywood

The red is the small gap where you can see the floorboards underneath. All ply is still level with each other. The largest gap is 10mm at the pointy end. A tile would fit here:

    carpet to tile trim?

So, there are basic trims that just go over the top? Glue down in case there's no wood to screw into ?

    small gap in between plywood

that was my crap diagram. Actually at the other end, the 2 large pieces of ply touch. Then I have this triangular shaped bit of ply in the middle. If I didn't put the triangle in the middle, then it would have been on the left or right hand end to cover the area where I need to put tiles down.

    carpet to tile trim?

Need to get 2 sets of trims. 1 from carpet to tile & 1 from vinyl to tile. The carpet to tile is about the same height. The vinyl to tile is about 15mm difference. Also, do you put the trim down then tile or can you do it afterwards. The only ones I've seen are those that you screw...

    small gap in between plywood

Because my room is not completely square, I have had to cut a long triangular shaped bit of plywood to fit in between 2 large sheets of plywood on the floor. I could not get an exact fit so there is a 10mm gap at one end of the ply. I think the tile will be supported by the ply anyway but is...

    dremel - polish watch

I scratched the plastic surface of my watch and am wondering if the polish brush on a dremel will sort this out. Any ideas?

    tile continuosly into other room?

My kitchen and utility room are joined together. Would you recommend tiling continuously through the rooms? I intend to start in the kitchen but am worried that tiling continuously through the doorway and into the utility room might leave some awkward sized tiles in the utility room. Would it...

screwing down plywood over chimney hearth

the plugs are just spinning I think. Guess adhesive is the only thing left. I'll have to take up that bit of ply. Is it okay to rescrew into the same holes once the adhesive is down on that small section?

screwing down plywood over chimney hearth

Actually, it was probably sticking out a bit. They are cheap plugs yeah and they're 40mm long rather than 30mm. Any recommended makes and should they be 30mm or less even?

screwing down plywood over chimney hearth

nah, doesn't look like it. It's just not pulling the plywood down and securing it. It remains loose and slightly raised from the floor whereas elsewhere it is secured tightly.

screwing down plywood over chimney hearth

screws are 4 x 30mm.been drilling with a 6mm drill bit for wall plugs that say to use a 6mm bit and suitable for 3.5-5mm screws. Don't think the concrete was crumbly but it's possible I guess although the old chipboard was nailed securely enough.

screwing down plywood over chimney hearth

no, the concrete isn't raised higher than the floorboards, it just seems to be there instead of floorboards but where the original hearth must have been. It's the bit that would have gone under the hearth. Anyways, it's not working very well. I can drill through but it doesn't seem to be...

screwing down plywood over chimney hearth

okay, but at some point here the drill hole in the plywood is gonna be bigger than the screw isn't it...on the account of the wall plug usually being bigger than the screws. I can see the screw going straight through the wood and into the concrete not actually securing the plywood at all ? :?

how much movement can a flexible adhesive take?

but a tiny amount of say a floorboard under the plywood is fine?

screwing down plywood over chimney hearth

do you have to drill a hole first or can you screw it straight through the wood and into the concrete?
