    Wall tile question

Taken off some wall tiles (approx 6 x 3 tiles) to site a wall socket, they came off easily enough but I noticed they all had a couple of dabs of wall cement on them. I would normally put cement on the wall and then apply the tiles, but looks like previous tiler has just dapped and stuck on...

Tiling what size of screws ?

Its wooden (not chipboard) joists are 16 " and there is no bounce in the floor so was advised 9mm was sufficient.

    Trying to improve

Many thanks for your replies and the detail you have given me. I think my next step will be to offer a couple of days labour free to a skimmer, I reckon I would then be home and dry. :-) I think I am at the stage I just need to watch a pro now.

    Hinging 2 unit doors together?

I am re positioning the kitchen units (floor)and resiting the tumble dryer. The way it works out the tumble dryer will be in a double doored unit 2 x 40cm doors, however when I open the left door it will make access impossible as it will block the entry (due to cooker). I am looking at hinging...

    Cutting a kitchen unit door

I need to reduce the size of a kitchen unit door, its a one off so dont want to buy special tools. I am reducing the width at the door handle end so I dont have to fit the hinges again. It is high gloss black and will get a strip to cover the cut end. (chipboard) I have tenon saw, circular...

    Routing electric cable

I think all will be ok but thanks for the warning. The gas guy works with the elec all the time (for dual installations) and will guide me as likely route if any doubt I will phone the elec guy.

    Routing electric cable

Thanks Bryanpar. I will have the channel ready for the elec so it can be buried. I get a cheap rate of the elec if I do the manual stuff. I cant afford to waste time as it needs to coincide with the gas fitter, as the gas hob has and elc oven. I wasnt sure if it is was fed through as the...

    Trying to improve

Before I tackle the next wall, I would like to ask some questions regarding: 1. Areas I found a little difficult. 2. One problem area. Difficulty in getting a clean edge along where the ceiling & wall meet. Any tips? I think I was ok with 1st & second coats but at some stage either...

    Routing electric cable

I currently have an island unit containing an electric hob. This will shortly be unused and a gas hob elec oven installed against the wall (freestanding). The socket for the hob is in the island and fed from under the floor. The gas cooker will require an elec feed and I intend to use the same...

Taking a row of tiles out

As funds are running low I now need to improve my bathroom rather than refurbish. Whats the chances of being able to take out a row (horizontal) of tiles off a wall so that I can replace them with something more suitable? I was thinking of `angle grinding` near to the joint and chipping out...

    Skimming timings

Done the skimming today, much better result than my previous attempt a few years back, a few bits I will need to fill in as I never noticed them when flattening I obviously need to watch the lighting next time as it was only when I shone a torch along the wall as opposed to the lighting hitting...

    Skimming timings

I know this cant be exact but just trying to get an idea of my time frame for doing an 8 x 3 foot wall. Only ever skimmed once before a few years back. Once the first coat has been applied roughly how long have I got before the second (final) coat is/can be applied. I am thinking that in...

    1 or 2 skims?

Thanks for the replies. One other question some parts of other walls I have stripped of wallpaper just have a couple of areas where the paint has lifted, I normally use filler but would it be ok to use multi-use for this?
