How to install a second consumer unit

This is starting to get expensive :( I can't really see that i'm ever going to draw 60A, We don't use the imersion heater as we have gas central heating, i think if i had every electrical appliance that we own it wouldn't ad up to any more that 10 - 15 amps max no where near the 2 x 30A ring...

How to install a second consumer unit

Right, before anyone says anything i am not going to attempt this myself, i will get an expert in. However i would like to know how it's done so i can't be fobbed off / conned etc. I've semi installed an electric shower, everything apart from the connection to the consumer unit. The problem...

    MCB/RCB question.

sorry i realised i asked a silly question as soon as i'd posted it. (it was late at night to be fair ;)) Anyway, now my head is clearer i realised, the MCB is actually in series with the RCD not in parallel as i'd wrongly assumed, therefore if either trip the supply is cut. I really must...

    MCB/RCB question.

I got a dedicated shower consumer unit with 1 MCB and 1 RCD. Now i'm having a problem understanding how it works. The connections are as follows: The earth in is connected to the earth out (straight through), the MCB has Live in and live out (live out is also connected to live out for the RCD)...

    How To Quieten Noisey Floorboards

There's this one room, currently no carpet fitted, with floor boards in good condition but they're so noisey when you walk across them. Obviously the boards are rubbing against each other causing the noise. Apart from removing all the nails and screwing them down, is there anything i can do to...

    What have I done!?

Might have an air lock, i had a similar experience i put the 3 way valve on hot water only for a bit, c/H only and a mix. All of a sudden i heard loads of water rushing, bubbling in the pipes and after 5 minutes everything was fine. good luck AL

Potterton Netaheat Profile 50E - Intermittent Ignition

You say the flames die down? sounds like a drop in gas pressure but i really don't know enough to comment. When my potterton played up (red flashing LED - lockout mode) every now and then. It did indeed turn out to be the PCB, i reflowed the solder joints and it's been fine ever since. I think...

    Radiator Balancing?

I guess the water is cooling down too much before it gets to the last rad . Yep, you could try speeding the pump up if you can, also increase the stat on the boiler if this is possible (might be set too low?). If you've added more rads it takes more effort to circulate the water. Balancing...

Ring main and lighting off a single circuit?

have you seen the yellow pages advert with the guy trying to fit a car stereo and he doesn't have a clue so his mrs calls in a pro, hes goes to press the door bell and there's wires everywhere, so instead knocks on the door? :) that's what this house is like, and then some  AL

Ring main and lighting off a single circuit?

Like you say it's probably not the case (i hope) probably badly labled consumer unit, the label says lighting and upstairs power? i'll see for myself when i'm over there at the weekend. I hope it is okay, i witnessed holes punched in the ceiling with trunking coming down from the lighting...

Ring main and lighting off a single circuit?

Someone i know has moved into a new house that has had various dodgy mods by the previous owner. She says that the Upstairs ring main and lighting circuit are one? i.e. there is one MCB for both the upstairs ring main and the lighting circuit. I thought these were normally seperate? Is this a...

    Are These MCB's still available?

i've found an alternate supplier for a 40A one and is cheaper too! So i think i'm all sorted now. Another question, what cable do i need to use to wire up this new Consumer unit. Bearing in mind it's a dedicated shower one, supplying only 1 load, could i use the 10mm stuff to come from the...

    Are These MCB's still available?

so do you think that 50A dedicated shower CU will be okay even though the shower manual states 40-45A?

    Are These MCB's still available?

i guess if i can't get any of these ancient MCB's i could always install a second dedicated Consumer unit for the shower? Seen one in screwfix 50A MCB plus 30mA RCD for about £40. Though the shower manual states that a 40/45A MCB be used. is 50A going to be too high, it's for a 9.5 Kw shower, i...

    Are These MCB's still available?

    Are These MCB's still available?

I'm in the process of fitting an electric shower, i was going to buy all the bits i needed so i checked my consumer unit and i need an extra 45A MCB for the showers dedicated circuit. Now this is the problem, my consumer unit is i guess pretty old, it appear to have a couple of bus bars...

    Messed up heating!

Yep i know what you mean, i had the potterton intermittent lock out problem (flashing red light) and was forever resetting my boiler via the reset switch! One day i got fed up so i took the PCB out, reflowed all the major solder joints and thankfully it never did it again :) Worth a try? AL

    Lockshield Valves

Your banging problem is probably due to your pipes moving about and hitting floor boards joists etc best bet is to secure your pipework so it doesn't move about. Or at least cover the pipes with insulation material so they don't make a noise. The valves are adjusted when the system is...
