    Eurosec alarm panel - decorating

I'll come back with one more decorating/ renovating question. There is a panic alarm next to our back door attached to a kitchen unit. I'm replacing this unit, meaning I'd need to take it off then put it back on again to the new unit. Can this be done? I assume the alarm will go off if I undo...

    Eurosec alarm panel - decorating

hi, I have a wired alarm system with a eurosec cp8l panel under a maintenance contract. I want to move the panel away from the wall to allow me to strip paper then redecorate. Was just about to do this then wondered if this may cause tamper alarms. If so is there anything I can do or...

    Rcd test button not working

I have a Proteus consumer unit. (I've just read they are a bit naff - not my fault here when I moved in!) I think it's a split load board, it has 2 halves, one with a "63A type A" RCD switch (twice the width of the other mcbs) labelled "main switch " on the board. ( the other half doesn't...

    ? Single pipe

I have a heating system that works fine. New boiler this year, converted to sealed system, new unvented cylinder new controls new radiators, all good. I had to take up the hall carpet to get access under floor (telephone problem) but noticed thar both pipes going to the radiator valves come...

    Wood floors

Well I took the carpet up and there is a good access trap under the stairs as above. Think I'll ask them to try and keep this if they can - when I popped down to see all the wires and pipes - must be good idea to have access of some sort.

    Wood floors

I've been told we are having a new Oak floor (hall, living and dining room). We have floorboards. I'm mithering about access to the subfloor in case if central heating leaks, re wires, etc. This must be a common worry. I'm told it doesn't come up easily, so would it be usual to fit access...

Open reach responsibly vs my responsibility

Hi, Phone went off last week. BT out today, wire had come loose in master box - all fixed. All fine. However BT engineer asked where does main line come in? I didn't know, he didn't know. We have an underground supply, a BT box at the end of the drive and then a master socket at the far...

worcester 30 cdi system boiler, unvented cylinder, sealed system. Fitted just in Summer, along with conversion to unvented tank and sealing of system. Only really used heating over last couple of weeks in any major way. Has worked fine for heating water. Come home twice now to find...

    Central Heating Pump Overrun

You don't really pay them out just to replace "a plug and play part" but for their knowledge in which plug and play part to replace!

Has anyone got a bad word to say about Vaillant?

Personally, I'd happily let the fitter make a bit of profit on the boiler such that in the event of something going wrong I deal with the one person. Buying your parts individually rather than via the tradesman must make them inwardly squirm.

    Condensate into gutter downpipe

Parents have moved. I went along to help them use the fancy wireless thermostat and get the heating up and running. Anyway, note condensate runs from boiler (airing cupboard upstairs) outside, along side of house and in to gutter downpipe. It goes from small plastic pipe quickly into really...

Will this device not create a "faecal aerosol effect" for want of a better way of putting it?

Issue with cold water tank in loft - repeat plumber visit

I am not a plumber. I am not even that competent at DIY. I however would have known that fixing the overflow pipe back on was not sufficient to effect a repair and hazard a guess that even I would have correctly fixed this problem in one visit. I'd buy a DIY manual and do it yourself next time.

    Rust stain external wall

Just had a new boiler. Old flue left a big hole which has been made good by the plumber. The flue guard that used to surround it had rusted and has stained the wall. Can I paint straight over this with masonry paint or does it need something first to prevent the stain bleeding through. All...

    Shower flow regulator

I have a new unvented system. It's great, too great even with the showers, the water blasts out. We have 2 Mira showers (Gem88 and a Coda) and I've read that with high pressure systems a flow regulator is available from Mira and fits in the hose. I've seen many (cheaper) similar...

    Shower temperature new unvented system

Thanks, reading it (and much to my surprise) the gem does not seem to be a thermostatic valve, just a simple mixer. My other shower Mira coda is thermostatic but the temp in this one is fine.

    Shower temperature new unvented system

We've had an unvented cylinder, new boiler (worcester bosch cdi 30 system) and it's great. 2 showers run well now without our previous noisy shower pump. However, on one shower (mira gem 88 BIV) the dial now has to be almost round all the way to red to get a nice shower. It used to be...
