    ceiling light on wall

Ordered a GU10 lampholder, thanks! Out of interest are there particular reasons why a ceiling light and walllight could not be fitted interchangeably in either location. Obviously some aesthetically would not work, just wondering if there are different regulations?

    ceiling light on wall

Ha. I'd not thought of that, I shall look into whether available. It's a GU 10 bulb so I'll look see. It seems an easier solution! Thanks.

    ceiling light on wall

I have a 3 spotlight bar light fitting on the wall. One of the bulbholders failed (burnt connector) so I want to replace it with something that will cover the area where the bar sits to the wall to save redecorating. I can find loads of 3 spotlight ceiling bar lights but not as many for the...

    Slimmer radiator

Yep. The problem here is a psychological one. Address that and the radiators, proximity to windows and the idea that people have solar powered batteries will disappear. It's a wind up.

    Slimmer radiator

The premise of this thread is nonsense. It clearly is. People are not solar powered. I think it's a wind up.

    Converting open tread stairs.

We have these open tread stairs which I'm not keen on, they seem a bit dated and "1970s". We're planning to replaster and decorate and I'm wondering what can be done with the stairs. I like "normal" stairs with banisters and spindles and wonder if this staircase can be converted and if not...

    No spare way

Thanks, they are all labelled as being in use. One is for the doorbell and seems to go to a transformer. I'd thought I could easily lose this and go for a wireless bell if that's easier but the bell works so if a small CU fitted alongside does the job that seems to make sense. Thanks again.

    No spare way

Hi, I'm looking to upgrade my central heating system. Currently I have no immersion and thought I'd have one put in as a back up for if (when) the boiler breaks down one day in the future. I have what I believe to be a split load consumer unit, but when I look every MCB is used with none...

    Boiler manufacturers and heating engineers

Thanks Ian. Yes, I've read lots of "which is the best boiler" threads and opinions seem to differ. I've sort of decided WB, Vaillant or Veissmann seem to be (generally) well respected and I should be looking for. I have an old floorstanding Mexico, gravity HW and 2 showers boosted by a...

    Boiler manufacturers and heating engineers

I'm in the process of looking to replace my old boiler and probably changing to an unvented set up, searching this forum has been very helpful in getting my head around it all. What is apparent on looking for 2-3 quotes is that many engineers link themselves to one boiler company. I assume...

    Wood flooring and plumbing

Thanks to all for your help. Don't get me wrong, I'm not downtrodden and I'm master of my own house. Well, strictly master only of the shed, but you know what I mean.

    Wood flooring and plumbing

My wife (God bless her) has the idea she would like us to replace the downstairs carpets with wood flooring. Now, I'm not convinced - not because I don't think it will look good but because I'm a practical type who worries about pipes and leaks, access to electric wires etc. My wife...

    Soot above gas fire

We have a Valor 541 Ultimate gas fire. We had it serviced only a month ago. We have it serviced yearly with the boiler. Recent power cut for 2 days (don't ask)so ended up using it lots (otherwise hardly ever used) We've noticed a small amount of soot on the marble of the shelf above. Flue is...

    wiring mess

"I've hard wired it so you can use the valve manually for your heating until you get an electrician to complete the job" Reply: "I have your payment, and it's yours as soon as the job is complete" Surely you asked for a complete job to be done - then the wiring or the sourcing of an...

    Ideal Mexico rs 380

Had the boiler serviced today, comment from gas man was that "inner flue is deteriorating, advise new boiler before gets worse". He basically told me it was fine but maybe a good time to get a new boiler next Summer as a planned event rather than if deteriorates by next service then have to get...

    Replacing a thermostat

Thank you. I presume I'd need a battery one to power a digital display? Is this a move forward? Would I be changing it all the time? A non digital (but a bit more modern looking) would be acceptable too, should they still exist.
