    Intumescent Letterbox - Small Aperture

I need to replace 7 letterboxes with intumescent equivalents (advice from fire safety inspection). The annoying thing is that the apertures are unusually small - approx 203mm x 45mm. I've done a fair old bit of Googling, but I haven't been able to find an intumescent letterbox which would fit...

Water Dripping - Mysterious and Annoying

Oh.......I hadn't thought of that. Thanks. Is there a way to tell the difference?

Water Dripping - Mysterious and Annoying

I live in a basement flat. About 3 years ago I started hearing a drip drip drip sound coming from above my bathroom ceiling. It only happened occasionally - maybe for a minute or two each time, and only a few times a week (although that's only when I happen to be near enough to the bathroom to...

    Bypassing Delay Switches

manufacturer has replied to my query, says PIR consumption is 0.5W so that’s (scratches head) 1 unit in 2,000 hours = about 4.5 units per year which will be about 80p per light per year on our current tariff. I think I can live with that!

    Bypassing Delay Switches

True, but the current setup is in a sorry state (long story). The delay switches don’t work well and more than half of the existing lights don’t work either - so we’ll need to replace them with *something*! The bulkhead lights with PIR can be had for £18 which is a bit more than a non-PIR light...

    Bypassing Delay Switches

True, although on the other hand it’s often the case currently that only one or two lights are really needed and yet currently they all come on (19 of them) so there must presumably be a decent saving to be had by having each light controlled by its own PIR sensor - so that only the lights that...

    Bypassing Delay Switches

Ok - understood. It’s fine for just one light to come on at a time though - don’t need all of them on

    Bypassing Delay Switches

the PIR sensor is an integral part of each light so each sensor only controls one light

    Bypassing Delay Switches

I’ll double check this shortly. Thanks

    Bypassing Delay Switches

to clarify: the wiring into the back of the PIR light that I’m trialling only has two wires (blue and brown) - there’s no switched live & no earth

    Bypassing Delay Switches

Well, a brown wire and a blue wire. anyway, thank you

    Bypassing Delay Switches

I have some pneumatic delay switches controlling some bulkhead lights in a long hallway. Pressing one switch causes all lights to come on - they’re all wired together. I’m thinking of replacing the lights with new ones with built in PIR sensors (have installed one as a test and it seems to work...

Vaillant Turbomax 828E - Ticking Timer

I've got one of these boilers - it's about 20 years old. It's got a time switch thingy on the front panel which ticks quite loudly - a bit annoying because it sits in the corner of my lounge (albeit behind a small door). I don't use the time switch - I've got a separate programmable thermostat...

    Ooooh thank you

    ID Needed - Cupboard Lock

Unsure if this is the right forum...apologies if not. We have a storage cupboard and the lock has been forced - there's a metal part which sticks down from the top part of the cupboard, and it has broken. Would like to find a replacement but I'm not sure how (or even what these little bits are...

    Cleaning/Restoring Solid Wood Floor

Thank you. I'd be interested in having a seal coating applied to avoid this sort of thing happening in future. Do you have any examples of the type of product that might be used for that?

    Awkward Tile/Wood Threshold

See attached photo...need to bridge a threshold. The tiles are a bit higher on one side than the other - about 16mm above the wood floor on one end but only about 12mm at the other end (everything in this place is a bit wonky!). Can anyone suggest a good way to bridge the threshold please? The...

    Flooring - Transition Across Doorway

Multiple thresholds, all of which are wonky in slightly different ways. It would be mathematically impossible to do what you suggested.

    Flooring - Transition Across Doorway

Because of the slightly wonky layout of my old flat, the wood flooring in my hallway meets the door to my study at a bit of an angle. I’m going to be fitting the same wood flooring in my study next week (hopefully). Is it best to have the pieces of flooring aligned with those in the hallway...

    Concrete subfloor - needs repair?

Ah ok. No, I don’t think there’s any damp around (I’ve got a moisture test meter in the back of a cupboard somewhere so I’ll be using that soon to check). In that case, might I be ok?
