Reattaching curtain batten without removing it

It’s not even been a year but alas something happened. The two halves of the curtain rail disconnected. The middle edge of one half fell down but I caught it. This put some stress on the batten which has levered away from the wall at the top edge by about half an inch. There are 7-8 screws...

Any recommendations for Window suppliers/installers in the Birmingham area?

Had a good result from Window Centre in Solihull. Family have used HiQ.

SCMS - do I need one?

Thanks. The wheels would have to run on to carpet, which is why I wanted to go with rails. I don't mind dragging out the SCMS. Is there a suitable one for a DIYer that's reasonably portable?

SCMS - do I need one?

Swmbo wants me to build an understair storage with slide out drawers. I’ve seen what she’s after on youtube: It’ll be my main project for this year and the one I’m most likely to bugger up. I don’t have a table saw, only a circular saw and a jigsaw. Is it worth me investing in a SCMS? If...

    router

I've used circa since primary school. I've never studied classical literature or Latin. It's common parlance when discussing historical dates. Less so for other uses. as J&K pointed out, language changes. In a few years, people will talk about how "they're", "their" and "there" are all confusing...

    Flexible drill shaft

I needed to drill a hole in a worktop right up against a corner. 10mm hole that is 10mm away from each wall. 18mm chipboard. I tried with my drillbit, angling it slightly but it's made marks on the walls, much to the chagrin of the missus. Is there a reliable or good quality flexible shaft that...

    Home TV Setup

I've not done anything like this but I'll stick my oar in anyway. 1. Frame can be as thick or as thin as you want. I'd think about access to cables if you needed to change devices or setup. A swivel mount as you've suggested would make things easier. You would need either battens behind the...

Good quality windows and doors at reasonable prices ??

IIRC composite doors - solidor are supposed to be good. One think I learned about online is that some companies are not permitted to work on new builds because they don't meet the minimum requirements, so they can only work on domestic properties. I've no idea how true this is. In the end, I...

Can I paste the wall for normal wallpaper?

This is what we did when we redecorated the bedroom. It made it easier to glide the paper along to make a perfect join.

    Combined respirator and goggles

The boards need to be different lengths (think staggered set up). I figured it’d be easier to do it all in one go instead having to go up and down into the loft.

    Combined respirator and goggles

Will be up in the loft finishing off the boarding. The boards I'd fitted last time were standard sized. I need to add extra boards that will need to be trimmed. I'll be up there with a circular saw and my CTL-midi dust extractor. What would be good for lung and eye protection?

How do you remove skirting nails?

I used a multitool thingy to cut them flush with the wall.

    Repairing kitchen worktop damage

Yes I do. I wanted to glue them back on but I know that would leave possibly unsealed cracks into which moisture could seep.

    Repairing kitchen worktop damage

I'll look into it. TBH the only reason I'd repair is to stop moisture getting in and causing more problems. The damage is just in front of the hob cut out and partially hidden by the hob. Even if I didn't repair, the worktop is a black/grey marble effect so the chipboard underneath stands out...

    Repairing kitchen worktop damage

One of the gas hob ignitors has stopped working. Clever clogs here thought it’d be a good idea to find the serial number for the gas hob which would be located underneath the unit. I prised up the hob from the worktop and didn’t realise there were clips at the front holding it in. They’ve lifted...

Switch the way a door opens

I did this for one of our doors. It was more than just taking the door off and turning it around. I had to recut recesses into the door and the frame for the hinges. I got the right length and width but depth was harder with just a mallet and chisel. I also had to cut a new recess in the frame...

    Bath Panel gap both ends.

I'm a DIYer so take my advice with a huge pinch of salt. I don't think decorators caulk is waterproof so I'd use mould-resistant bathroom sealant.
