Is it worth putting up scaffolding for a few minor repairs?

Outer London... Honestly that was my initial feeling as well, as they are all small and easy to fix issues, but then I was given lectures on how difficult it is to access the roof and needs scaffolding back and front etc. Guess I need to call some local roofers instead of relying on random...

Is it worth putting up scaffolding for a few minor repairs?

Thanks. That's exactly what we are considering as an option now, esp because we just moved into the house, so don't really know if there are other issues lurking yet. Though the roofers who came around thought all the issues have been identified by the survey. Thanks. We are not considering...

Is it worth putting up scaffolding for a few minor repairs?

When we bought our house, the building survey flagged a few minor issues (not serious or urgent, but worth sorting out) on the roof: chimney pots with no cowling (only wired bird guards), soffits a bit loose (see pics), flashing below one window started to crack (see pic, no evidence of water...

Tiling over (drilled through) copper pipe

I think you are right! There is indeed another cable running next to the pipe. Not sure what it is though, please see pic below. Is it going to pose a problem?

Tiling over (drilled through) copper pipe

Thanks both. He mentioned something like he had to use the compression connector as the pipe supplies upstairs loft with an en-suite...?

Tiling over (drilled through) copper pipe

I thought there couldn't be an easier job than to fit a shower riser on the bathroom wall, yet my builder managed to drill into a copper pipe hidden in the wall. He fixed the pipe using a connector, but then the problem is that the connector is sticking out a bit (see pic). He suggested two...

    Do IKEA vanity units leak??

Thanks a lot for the comments and advices. I'll ask my builder to replace the fittings with the McAlpine ones wherever he sees fit.

    Do IKEA vanity units leak??

Hi all, I've bought a nice-looking IKEA vanity basin unit (one with drawers, not cabinets), but my bathroom fitters are having none of it, saying that IKEA pipes are flimsy and will leak easily?? Surely IKEA won't be in the business if that turns out to be true... Any comments or experiences...

    Trimming fire door?

Yes there is a window in the loft, and we've now fitted mains-connected smoke alarm on all three floors. On the self closers of fire doors, I do wonder if this means that I should keep all the fire doors closed during the night if they are not fitted with self closers?

    Trimming fire door?

Thanks a lot. That's super helpful. Wonder if this is in the residential private properties or commercial properties? The carpenters I talked to didn't seem that bothered about the frames at all...

    Trimming fire door?

Thanks both. Yes that's also my understanding. The transom is glazed. Will consider replacing it with fire resistant glass at some point (apparently quite expensive!)... although the more I plan around all of these the more I think what's the real likelihood of a fire in the house lol.... My...

    Trimming fire door?

Thanks. No we'll live there ourselves. Were told fire doors are required by current building regs because there's a loft conversion, though the loft had building reg sign-off already, being done back in 1999. The current doors are quite old and flimsy, so we look to replace them anyway.

    Trimming fire door?

Thanks. Think that technically would invalidate the fire door's integrity? But the dilemma is that even with a fire door tailor-made to size, there's still a transom above that door which will need to be sorted out if we really want to do it properly...

    Trimming fire door?

Hello, we recently bought a house and are considering replacing the old internal doors with fire doors. Problem is that the box room currently has a short door (189cm) with a transom above. I looked at the fire doors available on the market and most of them are 198cm, and specify that they can...

What can I do to these ugly kitchen walls behind units pls?

Thanks a lot guys. Strangely the building survey didn't pick up any damp readings in the property though. Which trade shall I seek out for the damp issue please?
