Electric Boiler for domestic only (not C/H)

Hi An option if you have space is install a hot water cylinder with cold water storage above. Higher the better. You could then heat the water via immersion heater. This would give you a bulk store of hot water and offer the same flow rates as a gas boiler/tank fed system. It also gives...

two showers on one combi (split thread)

Hi Thermostatic showers will reduce the chance of temperature differences etc if water is demanded elsewhere. If your having 2 showers then maybe worth considering an electric unit as they are good for back up if your boiler ever fails.

    Rad not warming up

Just a thought, u say the rad is at the top of your house? Do you mean in like a loft conversion? Is your heating open vented? Ie is there a feed and expansion tank somewhere and how does the position of it if u have one relate to the problem radiator??

    A hypothetical question ??

Tony As per the title " a hypothetical question" i havent referred to my rgi because there isnt one. Hence why im here. I work within the industry and heard someone say (with 32 yrs exp) that you "cant size down then up again" i was merely asking if the pressure drop is within boundaries is...

    A hypothetical question ??

Thanks I suppose what im getting at essentially is if the start of run is 22mm copper then connects to inch iron(which will be smaller internal bore) then back to 22mm copper you are changing down a size to then increase again. ok if pressure is sufficient?

    A hypothetical question ??

Cheers mrgas it was my understanding that minimum pressure drops must be adhered to but does it matter whats actually carrying the gas ? whether it be copper/iron/lead etc?

    A hypothetical question ??

New condensing boiler to be fitted 24kw conventional with 22mm gas connection. Gas is 22mm copper at meter then joins inch iron (unseen) and appears elsewhere. Would it in any way contravene gas regs to connect 22mm copper back to the iron to supply new boiler? (pending sufficient gas...

    New Thermostat

Thanks bengasman Ironically the stat is at the back of the lounge at the mo. I was my understanding to try and get the room stat in the coolest part of house ? ie hallway away from direct sun etc

    New Thermostat

Since undergoing an extension im not convinced my existing wired room stat is now in the optimum location. Therefore im looking at replacing with drayton rf601 wireless so i can seek out the best place for it. Current system y plan fully pumped conven syst with separate 2 channel timer...

    Integrated power shower problem

Could be your water storage capacity in the loft is insufficient. The tank in loft will feed your shower with cold and also the hot water cylinder as well. If your under your shower a while you could drain the loft tank quicker than it can re fill it and therefore gravity wont push the water out...

    bungalow ch pipework

If u have a two pipe system already then absolutely not. one pipe systems heat each rad in turn so usually the rad at the end of the circuit is larger as the water is cooling by the time it gets there. Really innefficient. Two pipes heat all your rads simaltaneously. Just lag your pipes under...

    Thermostatic Power Shower

Hi Checking if your cold comes from the loft is simple. Turn on your cold only to your current shower - get yourself in the loft - lift lid on tank. If ball valve drops and tank starts to refill then hey presto its tank fed. If nothing is happening in tank then its mains fed. Make sure your...

    Thermostatic Power Shower

Hi I have a mira event xs cabinet pumped shower(pump is within the unit itself) which is great. A couple of things to bear in mind though before you start out. 1. the hot and cold feeds have to be nominally equal pressure ie hot from cylinder and cold from tank in loft. - you cant use...

    Decking; fixing joists to beams

Hi When i built my deck a couple of summers ago with very similar sounding construction to yours i used truss clips from screwfix. Used primarily for roofing but absolutely ideal for tieing joist to beam. See link below...

21.5mm Condensate pipe into drain pipe

In the short term you could totally disconnect the external pipework and discharge the condense in to a bucket internally. You would have to keep swapping the bucket over however, but at least your boiler will keep working. Not ideal i know but its bloody cold out there - just a quick fix till...

    4 new rads in extension

Hi all I have installed 4 new rads in an extension at home with 22mm copper flow and returns with 4 port manifolds on each end. (speedfit and 10mm barrier pipe on new rads) the 22mm copper is not yet connected to the existing heating system. The current system i have is fully pumped y plan...
