Which obviously can't be helped, I guess

Aaah, New Roof Leaking. Can't Understand Why!

Do these guys know what they are doing? Can I safely rely on them to fix this? Additionally, there is a gap in the flashing on the corner of the chimney above the valley, which looks a bit open. I will post a pic tomorrow.

Thank you. Should I get them to redo cement between ridge tile where a crack has formed, also?

Thanks Alastair, Is that the underside of the tile link? That's the problem then. Thanks again, Tim

Aaah, New Roof Leaking. Can't Understand Why!

Just checked. The overlap is 3" Basically, there are leaks all over the shop. You get 2-3 joists that are dry and then one that is wet. It's on the garden side of the roof, as well as the road side. I doubt anything can be seen from these pics, but here they are anyway. Some pics

Aaah, New Roof Leaking. Can't Understand Why!

Thanks for the reply alastair, The filler is just to see if it cured it. So, what you are saying is they are perhaps not overlapping enough? T

Aaah, New Roof Leaking. Can't Understand Why!

Had a new roof put on and it's been leaking. Some of the joists are getting wet. One area is particularly bad and it has come through the ceiling in one corner. Builder who put it on found a couple of cracks between ridge tiles and put some clear filler to see if that cured it. It hasn't...

Wickes or Magnet Hard Wood Exterior Door & Frame

Hi all, I want to replace my wooden front door and frame. 1) Wondered if there was any difference quality wise between a Magnet solid hard wood door & frame, and one from Wickes? 2) Also, was considering buying a pre-hung from Magnet, but it's quite a bit more expensive than buying the...

Balancing CH. Do I really need thermometers?

I have a back boiler CH system. Some radiators are not getting that hot at the bottom of the rad. Can I just adjust the lock valve a bit without using thermometers? I found this method. Will it be sufficient for me? "OK with the heating on full and running for say 1/2 an hour so it should...

Messed up Wood Style UPVC. What to Do?

Don't think they are ever going to be perfect from cleaning, and there is a section of frame where I used paint stripper, then quickly wiping it off.

Messed up Wood Style UPVC. What to Do?

Managed to get quite a bit off with hot soapy water and a LOT of patience. However, still going to be in-grained marks. My dad has a boat and much of the wood has been painted in a similar colour, and looks great, so since the upvc is mock wood, I wonder if the stuff he uses could work?

Messed up Wood Style UPVC. What to Do?

Just having the outside of my house decorated. I've got some rosewood coloured wood effect upvc windows, which used to be great up until my house was painted a few years ago. They splattered masonry paint all over the frames, which I thought I would be able to get off, but it seems impossible...

Any Point in Guarantee From Builder

Thanks noseall. Just wanted to see if it's normal practice, and whether I should be asking for it. If it's workmanship, then how long is reasonable?

Any Point in Guarantee From Builder

As per title, Is there any point in getting them to give me some kind of guarantee? Ie, building works guaranteed for...... Basically, I'm having the roof done, loft made into useable space with windows, 1st floor wall under bay window replaced, uppermost triangular section of front...

Plasterboarded over Old Artex, but is Wonky. Advice Needed

Found a role of scrim tape this morning, so that's a good sign. I spoke to my guy and told him they should have taken the old ceiling down, repacked joists, and done some bonding on the wall. To which he went quiet. However, I am not willing to go through pulling it all down and doing...

Plasterboarded over Old Artex, but is Wonky. Advice Needed

Wow, that sounds v. expensive. There must be at the very least around 40 sq/m in the room (probably more), which would be £800

Plasterboarded over Old Artex, but is Wonky. Advice Needed

How long would it take, IYO, for about 14sqm ceiling to dothis to joists. Also how will the wonky wall impact on this? As I said. I didn't ask them to right a wonky wall. Just skim it. Would be interested knowing what you think going rate (for someone good) in London for skimming a room...

Plasterboarded over Old Artex, but is Wonky. Advice Needed

PS. Is levelling joists difficult? What does it entail? Want to make sure so he can't come back at me and say...something like that would cost you £xxx. Cheers, Tim
