Plasterboarded over Old Artex, but is Wonky. Advice Needed

The small section of 4m (width) and about 3/4m deep, running along the window they did completely replace looks the muts nuts. I'm not sure why that has turned out that way, whether there are joists at different levels, but as you say it surely wouldn't be too hard to add a slither of wood to...

Hi all, They have got a new plasterer to reskim. A neighbour has had a look and feels they have done a good job, also I got another plasterer to have a look and he said it was a nice job. However, I've not seen any sign of scrimtape, but I haven't been there to check. i will ask on this...

Plasterboarded over Old Artex, but is Wonky. Advice Needed

Steve, not atm. It was along where the wall met the ceiling edge, in the corner in the area in my previous picture. Since that section is something like 1/4" lower (probably less, but looks that amount) is there bonding that would cover the ceiling like that?, so you would be filling 1/4"...

Plasterboarded over Old Artex, but is Wonky. Advice Needed

It seems the wall is completely uneven (which it is), so at the worst point is where the wall moves away by about an inch. Spoke to them today and they showed me how the wall bows out. They said problem was with the joists and the wall, and the fact it wasn't finished. Have assured me it will...

Is This Expensive Getting my Room Painted?

Please veryone, I don't want an argument on whether it can be done for £180. Just want people who do it professionally, and to a high standard, to give me an idea. Thanks, Tim. Atm, I'm thinking along the lines of £350 would be expected for a top notch job.

Plasterboarded over Old Artex, but is Wonky. Advice Needed

Thank you both so much. The room is not finished, so perhaps hold judgement on the door frame? They are replacing the frame. So, the plasterboard should go right to the corner? Richard, not quite sure what you mean. Got quote all seperated out, ie skim, doing ceiling. Painting for...

Plasterboarded over Old Artex, but is Wonky. Advice Needed

Thanks Richard, Reason for reboarding was because ceiling was bowing in places and not secure (was very very old). Here are piccies, They are a building team of about 6 so it's not really getting in a mate. You've got electrician/various, builder, couple of labourer/builder guys, and...

Plasterboarded over Old Artex, but is Wonky. Advice Needed

Hi Hope someone like roughcaster can give me some advice here. I've got a room of about 4x4m, with a bay window taking up most of one wall and window is about 2m in height. They are charging me £460 to skim it. Is this reasonable price? Also, I asked them to sort Artex ceiling. Initially...

Is This Expensive Getting my Room Painted?

Okay I've got someone who thinks £180 including all materials, which does seem ridiculously cheap, and someone who thinks that is a joke but does not post anything informative. Anyone else who can give me some adviceon this?

Is This Expensive Getting my Room Painted?

Wanted to know if this quote from my builder to paint the room he has skimmed is expensive? The room is 4x4m and about 2.5m high and has a bay window across pretty much whole of one wall (window not to be painted). He said it will be £450, which includes primer and undercoat, but I will...

    Building Question

Just been having my mid terrace, 2 bedroom house (built 1935) re-rendered with old pebbledash taken off. The wall (single brick) at the front on the 1st floor bay window came through to the bedroom where they were taking the pebbledash off. Also, unfortunately on these houses where the window...

Is This Artex, and How To Deal With It

Hope someone can advise me on how best to deal with my ceiling, which I want to be skimmed. It looks like Artex, and I've read on here about PVA first before skimming, but as the pics show certain amounts are cracking. The roof was leaking when we first moved in and it dripped through the...

Removing Pebbledash & Re-rendering Advice Please

Basically I have not more than 15 sq/m at the front, and same again at the back. I then have an additional 10 sq/m for my extension, which doesn't have pebbledash so just some rendering. I think I have made my decision on who I would like to do it. He does the full range of building work...

Removing Pebbledash & Re-rendering Advice Please

Thanks roughcaster, Personally, I think that £4.7K is way too much. I also think that the £2-£2.5K quotes would end up being increased. I think something like £3k should reasonably cover it, especially since scaffolding would be there for the roof, already. One of the companies has nice...
