    What does this symbol mean?

I'm updating this in case anyone has the same dilemma in the future. I have spoken to the very helpful people at https://www.downlights.co.uk and since the bulbs I want to use are the high CRI Philips expertcolor and they are a retrofit AC, rather than adding up the led wattage to work out...

    What does this symbol mean?

    Ok. Let's call them gu5.3 mr16's. According to the Varilight website... https://www.varilight.co.uk/configurator/product.php?code=yt50lz ...maximum 25w of mr16 LEDs So (6.5w X 5) + 10% = 35.75

    What does this symbol mean?

Hello What does this symbol mean on this swan neck light fitting please? The symbol that looks like an F after the 0.5? Can't find it with Google. I'm hoping its an obscure symbol for double insulated. I have 5 x 20w swan neck halogens on a 30-105va transformer. I'd like more lumens this time...

Could I learn to use an electric tester?

No I don't know how to use it to measure voltage. I have only used it to send a current through conductors on small electrical items to find breaks in cables, wires, fuses etc. I will now Google 'How to use multimeter to test voltage' and hopefully that will point me in the right direction...

Could I learn to use an electric tester?

Most of the results I got from Google were either from the USA, which I immediately dismissed, or they were presuming that I already had more knowledge then I presently possess. That's why I thought I'd ask the forum. I thought they would help me get an idea of the difficulty scale.

Could I learn to use an electric tester?

Well I don't know what it is called yet because I've never used one. I would like to be able to test the wiring to light fittings to try to discover where the fault is. Can you recommend the name of the type of tester I would need? And is it the kind of thing I could learn to use quite easily...

Could I learn to use an electric tester?

Hello, as a general housewife diyer, I can do basic household electrics like replacing sockets, light fittings, tumble dryer elements etc. And I have used a simple little multimeter to find faults in vacuum cleaners, lamps and other small electrical items. But I've just put up an outside light...

Will I need to change all the taps?

Aha, thank you. That's good. I've tried looking for my existing taps online to see the spec, but they seem to say 'suitable for low pressure' or 'suitable for high pressure' but no actual details for general diy-ers like me. Thanks again.

Will I need to change all the taps?

Thanks. I'm not sure what the pressure and flow are. Will have to leave that for the plumber. There was originally a shower in the main bedroom, but the pressure was only sufficient to shower your feet. Lift up the shower head and it vanished. There's probably only 0.5m from the base of the loft...

Will I need to change all the taps?

My 1982 Ideal Mexico boiler has died. It lived a happy and contented life. RIP So since I'm already having to shell out a considerable amount for a new boiler, oil tank, replace and reposition a few old radiators etc, I have been contemplating changing to an unvented cylinder. Larger size, and...

Cable to outdoor lamp too short

I doubt very much whether i could successfully feed a new cable back through to the switch. Who knows how many bends there are on the way. Or if there is conduit all the way .I could end up without an electric supply to my light! Yes you're right, the twin and earth cable won't fit perfectly on...

Cable to outdoor lamp too short

Hello. Hope you can help. I fitted a Lap LED floodlight about a month ago. Hurray! We have light! Or, we had light. Whoever the numpty was that had fitted the old light, they had cut the 3 core cable to within 3" of the wall. I managed to connect the new light with difficulty. But no room to...

    Brick terminology help please

I'm only very early on in my brick learning venture. Just learning to see the various nuances in shades, blends and styles. I did spend 3 days trying to clean lime mortar off some old bricks that I've got though. I reached about 250, though some are probably unusable and loads are halfs.:( Th...
