    Damp after Damp proofing

What 'treatment' has been applied here? What did the damp proofing company do? Why did they do anything? (i.e. what was your original problem, and what did they claim was the problem?)

Vaillant Ecotec Anti cycling explanation / d2 function.

Perhaps, assuming the number is minutes. The boiler manual should explain (my Intergas one does). If you have poor flow, and too much boiler on/off cycling, then by all means increase the time. 20 minutes sounds high, compared to mine.

Average New Boiler & Install cost

Is it a simple combi-to-combi swap? I had an old Biasi changed for an Intergas in 2013. Cost was something like 1100 for the boiler and 800 for labour. Labour rates vary with location. Where are you?

Vaillant Ecotec Anti cycling explanation / d2 function.

Normally, anti-cycle would refer to a minimum time delay between the boiler firing for CH demand. Imagine the boiler shutting off because the flow temp was 85 degrees, despite the furthest radiator being cold. Poor flow could cause continual on/off cycles until that final radiator was happy...

Am I missing something? Why shouldn't I get a combi boiler?

As the last two have said, back up! Secondary reasons would be the greater scope for multiple draw-offs and a faster response for DHW demand. I grew up with a traditional system. Electric back up was useful for covering the odd boiler fault. At least you can wash! In my own houses, they...

    Intergas thermostat options?

Hmm. It was tough to choose between the Honeywell options, and now there's the Remeha on eBay for £40. Aarrgghh! I am keen on something simple, so it is probably that or the T4M. Thanks chaps.

    Intergas thermostat options?

Fair enough. I must admit that it has given me little bother. It is mainly the techie in me that fancies looking at the data. Maybe I will investigate my own RS232 link at some point in the future. I am trying to weigh up the two Honeywell devices. Not really into the phone app nonsense...

    Intergas thermostat options?

Aww... So there is no possibility of the diagnostic stuff, either? I quite liked the sound of that, as a nice addition to the stat. I shall look at the Honeywell web site. Thanks both.

    Intergas thermostat options?

Hi all, I have an Intergas Combi Compact HRE 36/30 which was installed in about 2012/13. It has an outside temperature sensor (for weather compensation) and is connected by wire to a simple Drayton Digistat 7-day thermostat/timer. The stat is a bit rubbish. It often switches off before the...

Traditional bath shower mixer - thermostatic control?

Hi all, I am planning a bathroom refurb, using traditionally styled fittings. I have a shower cubicle, yet would like to add a shower over the bath too (only for rinsing hair). I was looking at traditional style tap/mixer combos like this...

    Getting started with copper (CH)

I will have a look in B&Q, thanks. I usually prefer Wickes as it is less full of people looking at cushions and wallpaper, and it is quicker to get in and out of their car park! I might check out plumbase as drive past one on the way to work. I think I will start small and see how I get on...

    Getting started with copper (CH)

Thanks guys for the responses. I am happy to hear that the stuff from toolstation will do just fine. I don't mind spending more on materials and having spares. I intend to replace some 15mm CH pipework with 22mm in future, so I will hopefully get my money's worth. I had two reputable local...

    Getting started with copper (CH)

Hi guys, I need to do some work on my CH: replace a rad, move one, and add two. I have been unable to get quotes, so will do it myself. I need equipment! Everything from end-feed elbows to a blowtorch, to some rads. I usually buy from toolstation. Are their soldering tools, accessories and...

    Extending/Replacing Central heating Rads

If you want a pro for the plumbing, fair enough. But I would be tempted to remove the bad rads and sort out the unfinished wall area and draughts yourself. You can fiddle with that until you know it is fixed, whereas a trade might be up against the clock. New windows are also not the magic...

    Serious Mould Problem

Out of interest, why not simply call the damp-proof firm back as ask them to explain? I wouldn't mention the soft, and move the pipe wrap!

    Old garage structure

Ah yes, that edging does look nicer! I sort of did mine without thinking, then planned to render it, then attached the bamboo. I think I had had enough by the end! I enjoyed it for a few years, then moved house. I have since paid someone to lay a patio and it's absolute Crayola compared to...

    Old garage structure

I had one I didn't want in my back yard. Someone removed the asbestos roof tiles for me. I photographed the remains and stuck it on eBay as 'buyer collects'. Got fifty quid for it, and someone dismantled it and took it away! Pics of the madness are here...

    Subsidence repairs failing?

Ok, I shall try and monitor. That kit looks expensive! Maybe a few rulers will do. I have also noticed the wood trim (skirting etc.) On the stairs starting to move away from the wall. Then again, same thing happened in my previous house, and that was no big deal. Thanks.

    Subsidence repairs failing?

Yikes, that did cross my mind too. At the time, the house was owned by an old lady, so I assumed they just did the bare minimum on the visual stuff. I’m not even sure who to ask for a pro opinion... I have the details of the repairs, including the surveyors who spec-ed it and recommended the...

    Subsidence repairs failing?

Hi, I moved into a house in 2011 which had some underpinning work in 1999. The work included cracks being fixed with helibars, some just filled, and complete re-decoration. The re-decoration is a poor job: wallpaper is peeling, and paint is flaking. I didn’t care, as I intend to re-do it...
