Third central heating pump in 5 years!

We have a a heated towel rail in the system which is the air trap. A load of air came out of it a week after the new boiler was put in as Id expect then a very small amount a few weeks later when I thought to check one day. Tried a few times since and no air at all just instant heating fluid...

Third central heating pump in 5 years!

Ive read the Grundfos 15-60 130 pump has a greater head for bigger systems and restrictive systems. I have the 15-50 130. Could the restriction of microbore be reducing the life of the standard pump? Or is that a daft thought as they are simply the same pump produceing slightly different...

Third central heating pump in 5 years!

water quality is excellent! there has been a magna clean on the system for some time, obviously fitted as a possible cause for concern. Also system had been power flushed. My plumber wash surprised at how clean the water, header tank etc all was. It was drained and filled again also by...

Third central heating pump in 5 years!

Ive been in my new (old) house about 1 year. I took out a Rayburn boiler cooker range as it had caused the previous owners trouble from day one, they left all the invoices and complaint letters, thanks for telling us after we bought the house! It turns out they had 2 central heating pumps in...

I need an air stapler for a big insulation job ive got on (sheeps wool, membrane etc) and was considering a Bostitch combi which is a brad nailer also as I'll be redoing old rooms with new finishings soon and thought I could use the bostich gun for this also if i get the combi. But: Are...

what setting for a core bit on an sds+ drill?

This is a follow on from my other post below but a bit different. Presumably when using a core bit I use it on the hammer drill setting not just the rotational drill setting? I did try it on the rotational drill setting aswell but it seem to stall out all the time and any time I put even a...

brand new diamond core bit wouldnt cut butter, help!

I need to put a 65mm hole through a modern concrete block wall to run a waste pipe. Bought a new SDS plus Hitachi drill which Ive used for various tasks, chiseling and masonary drilling for this same job and its amazing compared to a normal hammer drill. I bought a CDC core drill from Core...

Stuck! What vapour control layer to use in an old house.

Im stripping the inside of an old house back to the stone walls and framing it and then insulating with sheeps wool, floor, walls and ceilings. Ive been advised to use a vapour control layer on the walls. Pro Clima Intello Plus and Tyvek Airgaurd have been recomended. Rolls of this stuff are...

sheeps wool, old stone walls, do I need an air gap?

Im getting conflicting information from various high profile sources, sheeps wool manufacturer, historic Scotland, eco buiding expert in Ireland etc. But hopefully I'll find someone on here who has done it! My house is 22" granite wall, suspended floor ventilated solum, slated roof on felt...

Confused about drills! Can I core drill with an SDS drill?

Im confused. Been using my plumbers (he knows!) heavy duty SDS max drill to chisel a chanel in a concrete floor and it worked well. I now need to drill a 65mm hole through a single skin block dwarf wall under a conservatory. I was going to treat myself to a lighter weight SDS plus...

Our house is an old stone built job, downstairs is quite nice original pitch pine deep skirting, cornicing etc Bathroom & kitchen is all fine just need a bit of paint and wallpaper in places. The house virtually has no insulation, ive only been there 3 months. Im going to do the loft and...

Breathable sheet material for lime plaster.

Much appreciated. One other thought. The construction of my house is 24" stone, battoned and sheeted with 11mm wood fibre board, this is original stuff, built 1928. Downstairs was done a bit fancy with cornicing etc, kitchen and bathroom is good Im happy with downstairs, just a bit of...

Pavaflex wood fibre insulation any good, for 1928 house?

Would use it between hanging posts and rafters just like normal glass wool. Would leave an air flow gap between underside of sarking board and top of wood fibre insulation.

Breathable sheet material for lime plaster.

The roof is Welsh slate on bitumen felt on sarking board. The house is 80 year old, the felt has broken up due to its age, ive seen this when replacing slates. There is plenty air flow through the roof itself. I was just making the point that the construction is not of ventilated ridge or soffit...

are there breathable alternatives to plasterboard available?

Im having to remove the coombed ceilings in an old property to allow insulation to be fitted. Plan to resheet with some form of breathable board. Is standard plasterboard ok or is there other well known breathable boards out there? Thanks
