This is a follow on from my other post below but a bit different. Presumably when using a core bit I use it on the hammer drill setting not just the rotational drill setting?

I did try it on the rotational drill setting aswell but it seem to stall out all the time and any time I put even a moderate force against it the clutch seemed to slip.

Thanks

No do NOT use it on hammer action. Core bits aren't designed to be used like that and the most common result is the diamond cutting tips get broken off.

Yes,
and if the core bit keeps stopping as you say then I'd say your drill is not powerful enough. Hire one for the day and tell them what you intend to do and they will provide a high torque slow speed drill.

Once it starts to cut into the material, you have to keep the drill very steady too. If you let the back end of the drill drop by even a few mm it will stop the drill from turning (too much friction between the core bit and the material being drilled).
