Different coloured Silicone round bath and down corner walls ??

For a start I would not use silicone at all because it always has to be replaced sonner or latter. Instead I would get a product called "teleseal" (and have done more than once in the past). It's more expensive than silicone but permanent and hard wearing. They will tell you exactly how to deal...

    Faulty Guttering

This will be because the gutters were not installed with the correct slight slope. Happens all the time where the installers are not very bright, they seem not to understand that water always runs downhill. I have seen the same error dozens of times. Solution is to remove the gutters completely...

    Help attaching garden gate

Did a similar job a few years ago: 1. Attach wooden posts to the house and garage walls anchor bolts. You will need an sds rotary hammer drill to make suitable holes in the walls. 2. It is essential that you use "hot dip galvanised" hinges for the gate because anything else will rust away and...

Looking to insulate loft but joists are too shallow at 60mm - stuck on deciding on what to do

No offence but I would not touch spray foam with a barge pole.

Looking to insulate loft but joists are too shallow at 60mm - stuck on deciding on what to do

There is an efficent alternative which I used in our last house because I wanted something easy to lay:-https://www.wickes.co.uk/YBS-SuperQuilt-Multifoil-40mm-Insulation-Roll---1-2-x-10m/p/166805?_br_psugg_q=superquilt

    Roof insulation period property

There is another product available which folk forget or simply don't know about. It's a bit more expensive than the woolly stuff but far easier to deal with, see here:- https://www.superfoil.co.uk/sf40-foil-insulation-customer-review/

Need some plastering advice - pictures attached

Had a smilar situation myself a couple of years ago and bought a tub of Wickes Ready Mixed plaster skim which did the job quite cheaply. If you are not used to spreading it on nice and flat, have a little practice first with a flexible plastic taping knife which was what I always use for such...

A reliable damp-proofing paint/liquid coating that does not require plastering/screeding?

Yes did my daughter's lean to bathroom wall with Blackjack a while ago. A couple of coats on the inside solved the problem - old cottage with exposed west facing wall and no cavity. I then attached battens and and plasterboard to cover it all up.

    Which loft insulation?

Had the same problem a few years ago and bought a couple of rolls of this:- https://www.superfoil.co.uk/vapour-control-multi-foil-insulation/. I used the SF19 and laid on top of existing 4 inch woolly stuff. So easy to lay and take up if you ever need to although perhaps a tad more expensive...

Laminated flooring cowboy job by builder

Blimey what a crap job - done by someone who has never fitted laminate in his life before. Also, you do not remove skirting and Wickes will give you one of their little instruction leaflets if you care to ask. I can't see any underlay in the pictues, did he use any? I have done some laminate in...

    Retiling Shower Room

    1. The quality of the sealent is very important when it comes to showers, in order to avoid any mould build up which I have seen a few times, there is only one which I would use from past experience:- "Forever White by Everbuild" a Sika business. A tad more expensive but you won't regret it. 2...

    Grubby marks on Laundry

Must add that after doing above job, I was still not completely satisfied and then read an article on Youspares website which suggested another remedy to do every few months if you are just using low temperature washes with no bleaching agents in the stuff you are using in the machine:- Pour...

    Retiling Shower Room

I did put tile straight onto plasterboard a while back (daughter's new bathroom)but only after giving it a couple of coats of Marpei sealer, see here:- https://www.toolstation.com/mapei-plaster-primer/p57804. I don't know what is in it but it seems to work and Marpei generally know what they...

    Retiling Shower Room

Sadly I have to say that whoever did the job in the first place did not have the necessary skills because this should be happening. Are the "walls" solid masonary with the usual plaster covering or are they so called stud walls:- plasterboard on a timber frame. If they are the first kind, was is...

Is it safe to use a metal light switch faceplate on a non-RCD protected circuit?

I find this all very strange, lots of folk use metal faced light switches, they are everywhere these days and perfectly safe unless seriously interfered, which the average child would be incapable of unless he were to set about using a hammer with all of his might. It's true that "only half" of...

    Grubby marks on Laundry

A cure for those small grubby black/brown marks on laundry. I know lots of folk have this problem and it is almost certainly from an accumulation of mould in the front rubber seal of the washing machine due to the use of low temperature liquids which contain no bleaching agents. When I finally...

    Silicone around bath

Last three baths I installed I did not use silicone at all having discovered a few years ago a much better method. The inventor actually one prizes a few years ago and the product is called teleseal have a look here:- https://teleseal.co.uk/ . Not as cheap as silicone but the first oneI did was...

    Grout issue - advice needed

In the last three houses of my own that I worked on, I treated the grout with a special spray on sealer which will avoid most grout problems in my experience. There are quite a few on the market these days but I still believe "LTP" to be the best even if it is a little expensive. Recently had...

    New build tv aerial

I know nothing but arriving at our newly bought house three yrs ago soon discovered that it was rigged with all manner of cabling and boxes to operate the dreaded "Sky". I ain't paying for that of course so soon discovered an ancient loft ariel of unwritten capacity which one of our three...
