    chasing CH pipework into wall

Hi all, Just checking- is this sort of 15mm pipe good for CH pipework in wall chases to prevent the copper coming into contact with the plaster...

sealed system losing small amount of pressure...

Thanks madrab. That makes sense regarding the two EVs. I'll keep monitoring the tundishes. Seemed odd that it lost no pressure when the HW was off for a couple of weeks but perhaps the movement in the system and pressure changes are when it manifests itself.

sealed system losing small amount of pressure...

Hi all, We have a sealed CH system with unvented cylinder (which is quite new, 3 or 4 years old). I've been monitoring the pressure gauge for a few weeks which I try and keep at 1.3 bar. It has needed topping up every now and again, and will lose around 0.1 bar every few days.Interestingly we...

    Grout.

Epoxy grout is next level for durability and crack resistance. Slightly more difficult to work with though, and more expensive. I've used a lot of different grouts but having now used epoxy for my hallway flooring and three bathrooms I'd not go back to cement grout. Might be slightly overkill...

Heat Pumps and Zones (or not?)

Could be extensive, if for some reason your main flow and return pipework is undersized, or perhaps all your radiators are the smallest size possible and your gas boiler runs constantly at 60 to keep your house warm in winter. Probably not the case though. We only needed 4 or 5 rads changing (we...

Heat Pumps and Zones (or not?)

Why would they not be, unless you needed such massive radiators that it becomes unfeasible? If the emitters are upgraded to match heat losses at sensible flow temps I don’t see why it would be a problem. Pipework diameter might be the only other consideration potentially. Our house is very...

Heat Pumps and Zones (or not?)

Appreciating there will be a limit to what a particular building fabric can sustain in terms of lower flow temps and comfortable IAT if a house is particularly poorly insulated and draughty, but I think that the majority of properties would be suitable for ASHPs, if the emitters/heat losses are...

Replacement water softener or any alternative

On a serious note, can you categorically state that they don’t work with respect to inhibition of formation of limescale deposits? Magnets can alter chemical compositions and numerous studies support this. The fact that there may be limited or no independent studies specific to these devices...

Replacement water softener or any alternative

My apologies- I have just checked and it is actually an electrolytic limescale reducer that we have installed. I think I know what's still coming though

Replacement water softener or any alternative

Yeah I thought someone might pipe up and say that. All I can say is we had a water softener. Disconnected it for a time. Got limescale. Installed magnetic limescale remover. Limescale reduced.

Replacement water softener or any alternative

Magnetic limescale remover? They definitely do work (we are in a very hard water area and are happy with ours).

Kitchen ceiling reboarding- board weight vs joists

Thanks again all. As said I didn’t purchase them with expectations of total sound deadening. I just thought I may as well as I was reboarding, and it was an extra 15% roughly cost wise. Appreciate all the advice. I’ve got some 9.5mm on order and being delivered today to go over the top of this...

Kitchen ceiling reboarding- board weight vs joists

Yes. It is heavy, but to be honest not that much heavier than a regular 12.5mm board. I have some of that here as well and it’s around 20% heavier. I do appreciate the advice and one way or the other I will have a rethink.

Kitchen ceiling reboarding- board weight vs joists

Wish I thought of that before I started. I’ve started putting up a few of the acoustic boards so probably more work to take them down now and instigate that plan

Kitchen ceiling reboarding- board weight vs joists

Thanks all. I have done a fair bit of research as well (previous house was very close to motorway- too close as it transpired, so we moved to a complete doer-upper!). The rationale for acoustic was I needed to reboard anyway, it was only a few pounds more than regular. I did have a look/think...

Kitchen ceiling reboarding- board weight vs joists

Thanks. Again fair point. It was one of those ones where the price difference versus normal boards wasn’t that much. The double boarding is as much to achieve the same ceiling depth as the adjacent lounge (which I’ve now knocked through to) to be honest. I should add I’ve already got the...

Kitchen ceiling reboarding- board weight vs joists

Thanks yes I do have a board lifter. I'm thinking that you are right and I have made an error. Perhaps the layer of the acoustic and then regular 9.5mm on top? I am using some rockwool as well. I was looking at the specs and thinking the difference as said was not that much but looking again...

Kitchen ceiling reboarding- board weight vs joists

Hi all, I'm reboarding my kitchen ceiling at the moment and just wanted to check on the below before proceeding further. Firstly, the existing ceiling was double plasterboarded. The reasons for taking it down was due to part of it sagging as a result of a previous leak (self inflicted-...

    Wiring for new kitchen layout

Hi all, I'm currently renovating our kitchen, with an adjustment in layout and as such changing a freestanding cooker (induction hob and oven rated at 10kW) to having a separate hob on an island, with two built in ovens on another cabinet run. I have the dedicated 32A breaker and associated...
