Traditional boiler - switch between hot water only and heating and hot water?

Hi, Apologies if this is in the wiki/faq, but I couldn't find it... I have a traditional (non-combi) boiler, which both heats the radiators and provides hot water, but in the summer, it would be useful to have hot water only. Obviously, I could turn off all the radiators in the house. But when...

Is there any substance that can be used to coat an existing tiled shower cubicle?

Thanks for the reply, and it will probably be a case of retiling at the least then. Just out of curiosity, what are a few of the more likely options from the 1001 things?

Is there any substance that can be used to coat an existing tiled shower cubicle?

Hello, I imagine that the answer to this will be 'no', and I'll be advised to get it repaired properly or ripped out and rebuilt, but... Is there anything that can be used to coat/waterproof an existing tiled shower cubicle? For example, some kind of 'rubber paint' or 'liquid rubber', possibly...

Help in locating particular kind of sealant tape

Hi Crystalclear, That's brilliant, thanks. That does indeed look more like what I'm after, and as soon as I search for 'butyl tape' instead of 'sealant tape', I'm getting loads of results that look promising. So, I'm sure I'll be able to find what I need now. Very much appreciated!

Help in locating particular kind of sealant tape

Hi, I know that sealant tapes aren't very popular on here, but about 5 years ago, I bought a great one (from Wilko's I think). Rather than being a wide thin adhesive strip with a crease down the middle, it was a narrow fat strip that you'd press into edge to be sealed. It was particular useful...

    Gutter overflowing into boiler flue

Thanks for that. I will definitely look into that. I wonder if anyone had any thoughts on the down pipe. During heavy rain, because there is such a huge amount of water coming from the down pipe down in a single column, I think that contributes to the overflowing. Is there any way to...

    Gutter overflowing into boiler flue

Hi, Please see photo in my 'Gutters' album (URL below just in case): http://www.diynot.com/network/shooey/albums/22783/85163 Originally I had no down pipe from my upper gutter. But it broke and when someone came to fix it they added a down pipe, and this is where my problems began. The...

Looking for inventive ideas on shower cubicle leak

Sorry - posted this in the wrong section. I've now reposted in the tiling forum, so please ignore. P.S. If there's a way to delete this, just let me know and I will.

Looking for inventive ideas on shower cubicle leak

Hi, I have one of those cheap plastic / fibreglass shower trays that flexes. And there's a gap between the tiled shower walls and the shower tray filled with silicone. I've had it "fixed" professionally a few times, and it lasts for a year or so but the leaks always come back. I realise the...

Water Leaked from boiler in torrential rain - advice

Hi, Thanks for both replies. I've now removed the plastic around the flue, have turned the gas back on, and have re-lit the pilot light. My only concern now is the front cover (the one with the little window to view the pilot light) that I opened. Is this supposed to be air tight and...

Water Leaked from boiler in torrential rain - advice

Hi, In yesterdays torrential rain, quite a bit of water started dripping from the bottom of my boiler but stopped once the rain stopped. This has never happened before as far as I know. The Boiler is a Glow Worm Ultimate 40 BF (non-combi) about 10-12 years old, and you can hopefully see...

3 core cable into normal light fitting

Hi, Thanks for the replies so far. Can't provide a picture sorry, but the cable coming through the ceiling is a 3 core cable: 1xred, 1xblack and 1xgreen/yellow. So what I was asking really, was it it OK to use a light fitting (that I already have) that only takes 2 wires and just ignore...

3 core cable into normal light fitting

Hi, I'm about to replace a kitchen flourescent light with a normal light fitting. However, the cable coming through the ceiling is a 3 core cable (with earth), and I thought they were normally 2 core? Is it OK to just ignore the earth cable and put the other 2 into a normal light fitting...

Leaking Sink - crack in sink itself

Thanks for all the replies. Will take a trip to the local diy stores and see which of the above are available. If it all goes wrong, I'll just have to get a new sink - which I probably need anyway.

Leaking Sink - crack in sink itself

Yeah you're right - it is definitely metalic as I've just tried a magnet, so it must be metal enameled. And yes, it's definitely leaking from there so a chip in the enamel and corroded metal sounds very possible. As it's such a small hole, is there nothing that would fill it. Solder?
