    Thermocouple gone after 5 months!

Steady on lads, no fighting over an old boiler! After refusing to work all day, I decided to have one last go last night. Held the button in for over a minute, and it worked! Pilot stayed on all night and at present, is still on. I don't want to spend money on it, as we're getting a combo...

    Thermocouple gone after 5 months!

Back in May I had problems with the Glowworm Fuelsaver 30 - pilot wouldn't stay lit. After advice from this forum I had a new thermocouple fitted which cured the problem. Started using the CH again a few days ago and it's been OK but now the problem is repeating itself. The pilot lights OK...

    rain filling up my dpm!

I lifted the insulation as far as possible and mopped the water up. There's a few dribs and drabs left but I doubt that'll be a problem. It's under 4" of concrete now anyway!

    rain filling up my dpm!

OK cheers. Yeah I had intended to do it all but as sometimes happens, I had to unexpectedly leave it half done. Annoying but unavoidable.

    rain filling up my dpm!

I'm halfway through laying a conservatory base, concrete over polystyrene insulation, with a dpm under that. Thing is, it's absolutely hammering down, and my insulation on the half that's still to do is beginning to float! I guess I can lift some of the insulation and bail out the water...

    dpm problem with conservatory build

Would it be OK to bring it above the house one then tile over it?

    dpm problem with conservatory build

I have a slight problem (maybe): I'm almost ready to lay a concrete conservatory floor, with a dpm underneath it. I was assuming the dpm has to mate with the house wall dpc, at the finished floor level. However, I've discovered that the house dpc is not in a straight line (the house is on a...

Balanced flue will be inside conservatory

We have a plumber coming round to look at our existing boiler to say whether it's reasonable to move it. If it is, we'll probably do that and make a new system our next big project.

Balanced flue will be inside conservatory

Really? I thought moving an old boiler counted as a 'new' installation and that therefore the old boiler wouldn't meet modern regs. I'm actually pretty happy with the old boiler (the Glow-Worm, not the wife). If it's moveable that'll do me.

Balanced flue will be inside conservatory

No, it's not a bespoke conservatory (ha! I wish!). It's a self-build. From scratch. Looking at the various recommendations on here, including in the stickies/FAQs, some of the commenters do list Biasi and Heatline as decent machines. BUT I know others don't like them. Of course I want a...

Balanced flue will be inside conservatory

Jesus. No need for sarky replies when my wife is only asking a straightforward question. Suggest you read again mate - nobody's saying the conservatory's more important, but neither do we want to spend money unnecessarily. We know sod all about boilers and heating which is why I ask on here. I...

Balanced flue will be inside conservatory

Yeah, dying isn't on my options list, cos I wouldn't be able to enjoy our new conservatory! So what sort of cost might I expect, roughly, for a similar boiler on a nearby wall in the kitchen (but one away from the conservatory)? Just a ballpark figure or range to help me plan. That's new...

Balanced flue will be inside conservatory

It is a balanced flue. Looks like it's a new boiler then :(

Balanced flue will be inside conservatory

OK, I'm building a conservatory which means the flue from our gas boiler which is on the kitchen wall will be below the roof line. Wht are the options? Will the whole boiler need relocating, or is there a way of extending/moving the flue without moving the boiler? The boiler itself is not of...

house airbricks below conservatory floor level - what to do?

Hmm, so I need a continuous channel from the airbrick to a new airbrick on the dwarf wall. What if I don't do this? As I said, there are plenty of others around the house.

    joining damp proof membranes

OK, another conservatory question: Due to the shape of the conservatory, I need a dpm which is bigger than the sizes any of the DIY places stock. So what I want to know is - can I join two sections of dpm together, to enable me to cover the full floor area? Or is this going to let damp...

house airbricks below conservatory floor level - what to do?

OK, building a conservatory: the house has two airbricks below dpc level, so therefore also below conservatory floor level. In other words they'll be buried when I lay the floor. Not sure what to do. How important are two airbricks from a common space under the floor, which is served by...

Conservatory - 3m from rear of house, but which wall?

Hi. I'm building a conservatory on the rear of our semi-detached house. It will span most of the width of the house, which isn't very wide. I know we can build up to 3m from the rear of our house, but the thing is, the rear wall of our house (and it's all original, 1939 construction) is...

    decking treatment

Oil it is then. As the wood has weathered to grey, I don't suppose it'll put any colour back into it? Oh, and I can only treat the upper surface and ends. is that OK?
