Relacing new for old mixer shower.

Haven't got one of the old Mira but this is the Grohe: http://www.screwfix.com/app/sfd/cat/lrgimg_popup.jsp;jsessionid=0ZCBZ4AOXMLJYCSTHZOSFFQ?productId=25482&imageNo=4&ts=48005 The tap connector nuts are hidden by the finials but the old Mira just has tails.

Relacing new for old mixer shower.

I need to replace a mixer shower in a bathroom. The old shower valve is a Mira, the new is a Grohe and there is a 150mm distance between outlets on both which would appear to make fitting the replacement straightforward. There is, though, a problem. The Grohe comes ready-fitted with tap...

Leaking pipe from communal tank or condensation?

A friend has had a leak in the bathroom of his leasehold local authority flat. This was due to a tap connector on the basin that had worked loose. I have now fixed this but in the process took a look under the bath to check out the future fitting of a replacement bath/shower mixer. The cold...

Raising the CW cistern for a better shower usage.

There is a pump fitted currently and it is p¡sspoor. It has been tee’d off from the existing supplies. To rectify this and provide dedicated pipework to the pump would entail a lot of disruption to the property. Thanks for your help though, guys.

Raising the CW cistern for a better shower usage.

In order to obtain an improved flowrate to his shower a friend of mine had a pump installed a while back. This has proven to be pretty troublesome due to the nature of the installation. How difficult is it to actually raise the CW cistern in the attic by half a metre so? Also would this make...

Ventpipe used for supply to pump?

Right. Well the HW cylinder is in another room and, therefore, quite a distance from the bath, so no doubt it would have entailed a lot of work to instal the pump with a dedicated supply. I will mention this to my mate but I have not heard that the pump is performing incorrectly. Cheers...

Ventpipe used for supply to pump?

Sorry, I did not have a camera when I was doing the job. Thanks for the comments. How might the pump be (wrongly) installed in order that the vent pipe was drawing in air? Would this this setup be likely to give rise to problems in the future?

Ventpipe used for supply to pump?

A friend has given me the keys to his property in order that I could chang a leaking stopcock whilst he is away on holiday. This is on a cw cistern in an attic. One thing I noticed was that the HW vent pipe had what looked like a wastevalve (without ring) attached to the end with another section...

    Mobile spares, anyone?

Oompah : About once every five days, so about 360 or so in five years? Not huge usage, then. You're right about "a throw away world", though. I ordered new one but will keep the existing and see whether it can be fixed subsequently. Conny : No sign of it, I'm afraid. Will have to source a...

    Mobile spares, anyone?

As I was going to charge my mobile this morning I noticed that the little brass socket that the charger plugs into is missing. Unable to find it anywhere but I wonder if it is possible to obtain this sort of thing. It’s a Nokia 3300 (shaped rather like Keith Richard’s kidney). I have had it 5...

WM fills with waste water after program finishes

Yes, that seems to describe the situation properly. Thanks, cm1. As Isaid I will repipe incorporating a standpipe for the WM. Cheers.

Minimal hot water from 30 inch element.

This new cylinder replaces one that had the element at the bottom - this too was regarded as providing insufficient hot water. On both of these cylinders the hot water draw-off is at the bottom of the dome, not the top of the cylinder so some water is heated that is never used. Replacing with a...

Minimal hot water from 30 inch element.

That's what I am worried about. The cylinder is hot to within about 10cms of the CW inlet after the element has done its stuff. But this setup is expected to provide a shower for two women. Is it worthwhile fitting a larger cylinder? It would only be able to be installed horizontally...

WM fills with waste water after program finishes

Just taken a look at this and it is pretty much as you describe, wotan. There is one of those three branch traps under the kitchen sink (where the WM hose is connected to a spigot on a compression ring). The WM branch of the trap is quite caked with old dried washing powder, now cleaned out...

WM fills with waste water after program finishes

A friend of mine has contacted me and describes a problem re her washing machine. After having successfully completed a cycle she switches off the appliance and removes the items from the drum. Sometime later the drum has become partly full of previously discharged water, perhaps containing...

Minimal hot water from 30 inch element.

Fluffster: The cylinder is new. Sorry, perhaps I should have made that clear. So it is the first element to go into a new cylinder. But we are in a hard water area – London. Rssteve: The cylinder is 900 x 450 with a capacity of 120 litres. The flowrate I reckon is about 10 litres/minute (hot...

Minimal hot water from 30 inch element.

Not much improvement, sadly. I set the timer to come on for about three hours early this morning but was still deemed insufficient to provide a good shower. I shall now set the timer for two cycles of four hours to see whether this yields the required improvement. If, though, this proves...

Minimal hot water from 30 inch element.

The next check I make (tomorrow) I will remove some of the polystyrene jacket and check the heat in the cylinder. Well I will reset to 65 degrees and hope that the extra time for which the element heats the cylinder will provide for the required capacity. Thanks, guys.
