Laminate flooring / slope in floor

The room is anput 3.5x3.8m I think. It opens up into the living room, which will be carpeted at the same time. We want the dining room laminated as the kids drop food and drink everywhere. I'm not sure how much the room slopes by. I've been using a ball to figure out which way it's meant to...

Laminate flooring / slope in floor

It's concrete, and it looks like it's tiled (I've only moved into the house a few months ago). The fitting is next week so not going to be doing any big jobs to flatten it. To be honest I didn't even notice it wasn't totally flat. Was just hoping for some easy-ish tips or ideas to prevent the...

Laminate flooring / slope in floor

Hello, I'm getting some laminate flooring fitted in the dining room. New skirting will be fitted after. The fitter came over to check out the job last week. Today he raised concerns that the floor isn't quite level (old house) and the laminate might slide. I'm not sure just how likely this...

    Question: new boiler + stat

Just did. So when the room heat within a certain % of the stat target temp, the boiler doesn't go "full on", it just keeps topping up every so often. So basically I shouldn't be concerned?

    Question: new boiler + stat

Hi all, I've just had a new Worcester boiler and Drayton digistat installed. I've set the temp for the central heating at 70 degrees. I've noticed that if the room temp was, say, 18 degrees and I set the stat to a target temp of 20 degrees, the central heating will remain on until the room...

    Price for fitting skirting

Thanks, that's useful. I was given a price of £275 for a room approx. 4m x 4m - which includes whatever wood the tradesman is proposing to use. So based on room size, you'd charge would be about £80 for fitting. A decent skirting I'm assuming would cost about £130, so I should probably shop...

    Price for fitting skirting

Hi All, What would you say is a reasonable price for supplying + fitting new skirting boards in a room sized 4m x 4m, which contains a chimney breast? The skirting would be made of wood rather than MDF. Thanks!

    Burying pipework

I will, but at this stage I wanted some initial info. Appreciate you can't see the actual job but I assumed one metal pipe and brick wall will be much the same as the next? Thanks for the reply though.

    Burying pipework

Hi all, I'm buying a house and some of the downstairs central heating pipes are external. Is it a big / tricky job to have them put into the wall (by a plumber, not DIY!)? A rough cost estimation would be good, as I'm trying to do a bit of budgeting! Thanks!

Selling home / building works questionnaire

Hi all, I live in a Victorian terrace and through the kitchen there's a downstairs bathroom. Between the kitchen and bathroom there's the back door out to the garden. There was a doorway in an interior non-loading wall from the kitchen (opposite the bathroom door), which formed a mini-lobby...

    Off road parking query

I sent my last message before reading yours. Your reply is what I was hoping to hear sinse I can't see that access would be obstructed by anyone else's use of the lane

    Off road parking query

Thanks for the replies. There are car ports further up the lane on the same side. So it seems the only way to know whether adding a parking space is by carrying out a survey? I was hoping to have a idea before making an offer and incurring any costs

    Off road parking query

Hi all, I've just viewed a house that I'm thinking of purchasing and have a query I hope someone might be able to answer. There's a lane that runs along the side of the house and parallel past the back garden. On the opposite side of the lane there's a row of garages for the houses opposite...

    New fence

Hi all, After some strong winds I need to replace a section of wooden fence in the garden. It's about 5ft high and about 4 and a half panels need replacing . Could anyone let me know what a reasonable price is for this work? I have one quote but nothing to compare it to as yet. I'm going to...

How long to heat rads to MAX?

Hello, Our of interest, how long would you normally expect it to take for a combi boiler to heat radiators from stone cold up to max temperature (say, up to 70)? I've just had a new boiler installed and it seems to take longer than I was expecting, but I could well be expecting too much! FYI...

Blown toaster -> plug socket no longer working

No idea. I've never had any electrical issues since I moved into this house over 5 years ago; today's toaster incident has been the first time something like this has happened. Im not going to analyse it too much - ust it's working again!

Blown toaster -> plug socket no longer working

That did the trick - much appreciated! It's possible the 'electric shower' switch was labelled incorrectly I guess. Glad it's sorted, thanks again!

Blown toaster -> plug socket no longer working

I 've tried a different appliance in both sockets and neither work. The fuse box has switches. All the switches are up with the exception of one switch which is half way - but that one is labelled 'electric shower'. We don't have an electric shower and I'm not even sure there's a fuse in...

Blown toaster -> plug socket no longer working

Hi all I was making some toast and the toaster went pop. Now the double plug socket in the kitchen isn't working. All the other sockets are fine and the fuse box looks ok. Any idea what the problem is and how to fix it? Is there a fuse in the actual socket that needs replacing? Any help...
